Subject: The Tubes- Favorite Song Of the 1980s

Written By: HawkTheSlayer on 07/10/06 at 4:36 am

OK, gang!

The Tubes- in the 1980s they achieved their greatest chart fame. We all know that.
Prior to this, they were monsters on the concert circuit (see the 1970s companion chain).

Of the many songs they had in the 1980s- hits and B-sides all, which ones did you like?
Tell why.

Of course, if you have never heard of the Tubes, then safely disregard this post.
For caustic comments, go to the "I Don't Care" thread.

My favourite was an album track from their 1985 Love Bomb release.  It was called "Wooly Bully / Theme From A Summer Place"

In the left speaker, was "Wooly Bully".  In the right was "Theme From A Summer Place".  When you listen to it with headphones, it sounds just awesome 8)

There are some real gems out there, aren't there?

And just think- not all of them are hits!!!!!! :o

So, tell ME there aren't any good non-hits out there!

For example, on the "Outside/Inside" LP, Prairie Prince had his 1st solo piece, appropriately called "Drums".
Quite classic!

Any of you catch the video for "She's A Beauty"?

It's on YouTube.com

The whole thing is presented as a ride at a carnival.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!

I realize I haven't cast a vote out here.

That's because I have such a difficult time picking!

In addition to those I listed, I also like "Amnesia", "Glass House", "Fantastic Delusion", and "Mr. Hate".

C'mon, I KNOW more of you have voices out there.

Please forgive me if I keep this thread alive, until there has been what I feel is sufficient reactoin to this topic.

(Look on the bright side- at least it's not decadeology!)

Personally, I am a fan of "Gonna Get It Next Time" from the Modern Problems soundtrack.
Its really hard to find...but if anyone wants it...I have it.

Excellent!

My only problem is this thing can't accept downloads! :\'(

It would have to be snail mail, or something.
Let me know what you think.

I chose Other  Mr. Hate from the Completion Backwards Principle one of the great 'forgotten' albums of the eighties, though Talk To Ya Later is right up there.

....everybody's trying to convict me
                    for taking benzidrine and LSD....

Well, I know that if you want to hear them, you can download from Nero, Kazaa, napster, etc.

I believe they have samplers of the music on Amazon.com.
You can also go their official website, the-tubes.com

(Watch out fot the shattering TV!)

If all else fails, talk to me!
I'll see what I can do, what I can recommend, and what not to listen to- Whitney Houston tops that list.

I don't mind a bit of Whitney Houston on occasion though not too much and for not too long   :D

but never 'I will always love yoooooo ooooooooo oooooooooo ooooooo' - that song is unbearable

"Don't Touch Me There" was released about 1978.
I believe that one came out on their 2nd LP.

I know it's featured on "T.R.A.S.H."
(Tubes Rarities And Smash Hits)

Still does.

Their shows are almost as outrageous as they were in the day.
If they ever decide to take me on, they'll be that way again!

Good choice, but sadly, this is not an "Air Supply" thread.
This thread concerns the Tubes.

If you like, start an "Air Supply" thread. I'm sure it will get a good response!

She's A Beauty

This one is in my Top 5 as well.

I noticed that most people have voted for this one, because it's the only entry most people know.

If you like that, i suggest the other following hits:

-Talk To Ya Later
-Don't Want To Wait Anymore
-Love Bomb/Bora Bora 2000

If you want pre-'80s hits, I recommend the following:

-White Punks On Dope
-Don't Touch Me There
-TV Is King
-Slipped My Disco
-Rock 'n Roll Hospital
-Mondo Bondage

If you seek newer entries, may I interest you in:

-Digi-Doll
-Loveline
-Fastest Gun Alive
-Big Brother
-Enemy Of the State
-Piece By Piece

These are just to give you the general flavor of the band. If you want some of the more outrageous numbers, PM me. I know where the good stuff is! 8)

I don't know if I posted this, but here are:

Hawk, the Slayer's Top 12 Tubes Picks:

12. Rock 'n Roll Hospital- the stage show alone merits this! ("You're not a real doctor, are you?!?")
11. Out Of the Business- the "Every person's" song...we all can relate to this one...
10. TV Is King- Effective parody of life spent wishing it would imitate the Screen
9. Malaguena Salerosa- the only one of their entries ina different language (My band is covering this one!)
8. What Do You Want From Life?- Song is set up like a musical game show...BRILLIANT!
7. Attack Of the 50' Woman- Actually written for the remake starring Darryl Hannah
6. Don't Want To Wait Anymore- A powerful ballad, showcasing the vocals of Bill "Sputnik" Spooner
5. Wild Women Of Wongo- Surprising entry, outlandish and wild...as it should be!
4. Loveline- Superior entry to bring the Tubes into the 21st Century...all about love/sex on the 'Net...
3. Mr. Hate- Creepy insight into the mind of someone unhinged...remember the film, "Falling Down"?
2. Sushi Girl- Stylish song centered around a Japanese theme...
1. She's A Beauty- All-time classic! Quintessential '80s at their best!

Honorable Mentions- Theme Park, Amnesia, Big Brother, Mondo Bondage, Sports fans
