I never think of it as a British sitcom.  that sounds too much like George and Mildred or Terry and June.  Not the anarchic goings on of a student house

You are right - it is !

I would definitely put the Young Ones up there in my top 5 Brit sitcoms/shows.  I would also have Blackadder and Fawlty Towers in my top 5.

Fawlty Towers and Blackadder always has my vote.

^ I always loved Fawlty Towers too but the Young Ones was excellent, especially RIK MAYALL.
Saw him on BBC3 recently in that compilation of famous people telling stories on JACKANORY - reading one of ROALD DAHLS tales about the medicine for Grandma - he was acting like a total nutcase - it was hilarious  ;D

Fawlty Towers is my absolute favourite... There aren't very many episodes, but they are so re-watchable. I have the collection on DVD. :)

For some reason I have watched the Elizabethan Blackadder several times but have not watched any other series!

3. The Piglet Files

Never heard of it!

"The Piglet Files" was about the misadventures of MI-5 operatives.

Nicholas Lyndhurst played Peter "Piglet" Chapman,
Clive Merrill? played his superior, Agent Drummond.
John Ringham was MI-5 Senior Officer Maxwell.

"Piglet" had to hide what he did as a profession from his wife, Sarah.
His colleagues included Trueman, Dexter, and a bit of a clown named Lewis.

I have 2 episodes of this wonderful show-
One is about Piglet going through MI-5 training, and he ends up getting seduced by a female KGB agent.
The whole episode is about getting the VHS tale made of Piglet's 'soiree' back, so that Sarah doesn't see it.
The other is about a case of mistaken identity. A Russian assassin is sent to kill Piglet, unaware that he has the wrong man.
Meanwhile, Piglet is testing his experimental field equipment...with Drummond's new Daimar Sovereign.
The car gets blown up, and Piglet spends the whole episode being manically paranoid.
Cathc it, if ya can!

And now...back to The Youngs Ones, featuring Alexei Sayle.

The Young Ones were funny at the time, and I was such a huge fan along with all my other classmates.  But, you watch it now and it hasn't aged very well....a lot if it just isn't that funny.

The sad fact is that in 2006 it can't hold a candle to the likes of Blackadder and Fawlty Towers - both of which stand the test of time as all time classic comedy sitcoms.

I agree with Chasey.

Although I feel Red Dwarf should've been awarded, instead.

My fave episode is "Legion" where they meet that alien on his ship!

I was never into the "Young Ones". I prefer the older ones like Are You Being Served and for current UK comedy something like "I'm Alan Partridge" (the hotel one)... I could watch that all day!

Personally, I prefer Alexei Sayle.

(Although Rik's performance in "Shock Treatment" was wonderfully tacky...as it was meant to be. I thought "Rest Home Ricky" deserved more screentime.)

Rik Mayall's Guest House Paradiso was a complete turkey, but I would like to see him as King Herod in TV version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Fawlty Towers and Blackadder always has my vote.

I second that, especially with Fawlty Towers - you can't beat it!

Basil: Well what do you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? The Sidney opera house perhaps, the hanging Gardens of Babylon, Heards of wildebeeste sweeping majestically...
Mrs Richards: I expect to see the sea
Basil: You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky

oh I could go on - but I've already gone off on a tengent  :D

"...move to a hotel nearer to the sea, or preferably in it".

Now that you mention it I do recall that.  My point was more that the person who posted that picture said it was vyvyan when it clearly wasn't.

My favourite (crap at recalling the titles of these) is the one set in the summer holidays where they are all bored and Vyvyan hits himself over the head with a tray.

Fair point.

Viv was just brilliant, if there was nobody else to hit, he'd hit himself.

I've done my best to model myself on him... where was I?

I think Mrs. Richards is one of the most memorable guest characters I've ever seen on a TV show. Definitely a classic episode. ;)
