Another one I've discovered from this year was "We close our Eyes" from Go West. That song has a lot of energy.

I had the album back then, after watching the Call Me vid, and liked it alot...

But that's one album that definately hasn't aged well...

Night Shift by the Commodores was a good song from '85...

1985 is probably just about my favorite year for two reasons - because it's the first time that I have some memories (as teeny as they were) and the songs are like a cozy reminder of that. Also, because it was the peak of that cleancut mainstream sound that started shifting in 1986/'87.

Offhand, I love "Take on Me", any Phil Collins, "We Built This City" by Starship, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears For Fears, "I Wanna Know What Love is" by Foreigner, "Material Girl, "Rhythm of the Night" by Debarge "High on You" by Survivor, "How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston, "Power of Love" by Huey...and tons more.

She did yes, but it never charted in North America until 1986.  Strangely enough, the cover version that Air Supply did was the first one to chart in North America

Personally, I think Air Supply (theirs was in 1985) had the best one becuase they were the only men brave enough tot ake on the song.  All the other versions I know of were sung by women.  Laura Branigan's 1987 version was the first to see the US Top 40 and Celine Dion took it all the way to #1 in the 90s

Oh, yes! I LOVE this song!  :)

Right on, me too. :)

Like I said there were SO MANY good songs that year, so I probably forgot to mention it, but there's something about "Thunderdome" that I always liked. It's got such a unique sound (sort of a midtempo pop ballad with a dark side). It's like going on an adventure just listening to it..and when I was 4, obviously I didn't know what the movie was about or even that it existed lol.

My uncle put it on a mixtape back in the day (the long version on the soundtrack too) and it always gave me goosebumps, especially towards the end.

"Take On Me" is too obvious.  People are supposed to like that song and marvel over the vid...

I liked Kyrie by Mr. Mister, These Dreams by Heart, and Bastards of Young by the Replacements...

Oh, and We Don't Need Another Hero by Tina Turner because I was a Mad Max fanatic...

Hahaha.  No need to feel guilty - everyone loves this one.  As a kid, I loved this song.  I think it is one of only a handful of Italo songs to become hits in the US.  I never saw the video before.

Not many songs from Italy hit British shores either (not until Black Box and their various spin-offs later that decade)...

This was massive in Europe, only hitting here (albeit in a slightly different mix) when the British holidaymakers returned that summer...
