Subject: Quotable 80s Song Lyrics

Written By: snozberries on 01/04/07 at 3:42 am

Similar to the movie quotes but with music.  Give us your favorite line from a song.

"If my rhyme was a drug I'd sell it by the gram"

"There is freedom within, there is freedom without, try to catch the deluge in a paper cup.
Theres a battle ahead, many battles are lost, but you'll never see the end of the road, while you're travelling with me."

I like this line from the Boss' Tunnel of Love...

It ought to be easy, ought to be simple enough
Man meets woman and they fall in love
But the house is haunted and the ride gets rough
And you've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above
If you want to ride on down in through this tunnel of love...

  Just sounds good...

^The Crowded House line is a good one, too groove ;) on...

"I Feel Like Buddy Holly" by Alvin Stardust had two great lyrics that I love ...

"Now I know how Paul McCartney felt when he got up to say ... I wish it was Yesterday"

"Now I know what Paul Simon meant by the words be found ... I wish I was homeward bound"

D.J. spinning, I said, "My, My."
Flash is fast, flash is cool.

"Superman where are you now
Everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, men of power
Are losing control by the hour."

Excellent Choice, Jamie. However, snozz, Vanilla Ice was early 90's. ::)

"Who knows how long this will last?
Now we've come so far, so fast.
But somewhere back there in the dust,
That same small town in each of us."

Don Henley, "The End Of The Innocence"

"First time you feel it, it might make you sad.
Next time you feel it, it might drive you mad.
But you'll be glad, baby when you've found,
That's the power that makes the world go'round."

Huey Lewis, "The Power Of Love"

Your Pal,

I think one liners work the best;

"I'm headed for a heartbreak"

Some snippets of lines from '80s songs with good lyrics.
And I was surprised I could come up with this many since the '80s wasn't really a decade with music known for great lyrics.
:)

Over and over you can be sure
There will be sorrow, but you will endure
Where there's a flower, there's the sun and the rain
Oh and it's wonderful they're both one in the same
Joy and pain are like sunshine and rain

Love Pain, Sunshine Rain -- Maze & Frankie Beverly

Your lovin gives me a thrill
But your lovin don't pay my bills
Now give me money
That's what I want

Money -- The Flying Lizards originally from Barrett Strong (1960)

She walks in
I`m suddenly a hero
I`m taken in
My hopes begin to rise
...
Suddenly, the wheels are in motion
And I`m ready to sail any ocean
Suddenly, I don`t need the answers
Cause I`m ready to
Take all my chances with you

Suddenly -- Olivia Newton-John & Cliff Richard

The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away
Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

Same Old Lang Syne -- Dan Fogelberg

As I returned across the lands I'd known
I recognized the fields where I'd once played
I had to stop in my tracks for fear of walking on the mines I'd laid

Fortress Around Your Heart -- Sting

No pain, no gain
In order to get something
You got to give something
In order to be something
You got to go through something

No Pain,(No Gain) -- Betty Wright

In the city ladies look pretty
Guys tell jokes so they can seem witty
Try to tell a joke just to get some play
Then you try to make a move and she says "no way"
Girls a fakin, goodness sakin
They want a man who brings home the bacon
Got no money and you got no car
Then you got no woman and there you are!

Bust A Move -- Young MC

For posting Fortress Around Your Heart, you rock.

No comment on Mr. Fogelberg though.  For me, he's way up there with Dan Hill.  ;D

At the still point of destruction
At the centre of the fury
All the angels, all the devils
All around us can't you see
There is a deeper wave than this
Rising in the land
There is a deeper wave than this
Nothing will withstand.

Love Is The Seventh Wave - Sting

Thanks.

I listened to Dan Fogelberg back in the '80s and he always managed to surprise me and others every now and then, but I can't say the same for the other Dan.

The reason why I don't like the other Dan, is because of the cringe worthy song, "Sometimes When We Touch".

Yeah I was thinking it was released in 89 but then i realized that it was actually released in 1990-  it when it was too late... It was almost 5am when i did tho so what are ya gonna do?

If you subscribe to the theory that the decade starts in the 1st year then the 80s started actually span 81 -90 by this logic I am still in the right decade.... yeah,  I know,  I'm reaching...
