The Canada charts seem to have been closer to the US in those days, nowadays the US chart has turned into the "Rap 100".

The only difference between the US charts and Canada's were the diverse Canadian acts that weren't available south of the border. Trooper, April Wine, Toronto(the group, not the city), Chilliwack(ditto), and on and on. Some may have had a couple of US hits, but the majority of these groups songs were for Canadian release only. I remember that the song "When I'm With You" by the group Sheriff was a hit in the US in 1988, but as any Canadian out there knows, we were waltzing to that song back in 1982-83 up here. It only became a hit south of the border when a disc jockey from Las Vegas picked up the song on a vacation in Canada, and when he started playing it on the LV radio station he worked at in 1988, it spread like wildfire. The only problem was that the group had disbanded a few years earlier, and the lead singer wasn't even working as a musician in 1988. He was a delivery driver in Toronto(the city, not the group). Same thing goes for the song "Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina And The Waves. The song was released in Canada in 1983, and was mostly a synthesizer based song. They remixed it with prominent guitar riffs, in or around 1987 I believe. It sounded good to me both ways to me.

There were also many International songs that were hits here in Canada, that never saw light of day on the Billboard Chart.
