Subject: How do you listen to your 80's?

Written By: ILUV80S on 04/03/07 at 12:43 pm

Mainly my Ipod, I listen all day at work.  I have about 30 compilation 80's cd's, Living In Oblivion, Time Life, etc.  Plus my many homemade ones.  Then there are certain radio stations that play some good 80's now and then.  So how do you all get your 80's fix?

About 90% of the time, it's on the radio...whenever the station I listen to is playing an 80s song, that is. From 1997 through late 2001 I was listening to it on Friday nights; radio station KYSR-FM ("Star 98.7") would air a seven-hour block of it every Friday night. From 2002-03 they had it on Sunday nights from 9:35 to midnight, and from 2004 until April 2006 they had it on Saturday nights; I didn't listen to it much then.

And the other 10% of the time, it's on MusicChoice.

Predominantly through Renegade Retro - runs the gamut of 80's Rock, Top 40, R&B, Freestyle, New Wave and Dance music 24/7.  Otherwise it's through 12" vinyl (about 1,000 from the 80's) or mix CDs I've made from vinyl and CD tracks.

I have many many compilation albums on vinyl and I used to listen to them a lot...But I recently had them transfered to CD so now I guess I listen to them mostly on that format.

Some of the albums I have are:

1981 Over The Top

1980 Summer Sun

1982 With A Bullet

1982 Out Of The Blue

Choose 1985

Hit Pix 1987

Hit Pix 1988

Smash Hits 1987

Smash Hits 1988

Smash Hits 1989

I have various others, but cant think of their names right now.

I have one of the largest '80s artists cassette collections in Butte County.

I have about 15 CD compilations.

I have 3 special VHS tapes of vintage 1980s concert footage- American, Australian, and Int'l.

I know over 7,500 1980s songs by heart, that I have sung throught my 6 yrs. of running karaoke.

Otherwise.....I'd be doomed to liking Garth Brooks.

So am I, come to think of it ;)

But for me, the radio is my primary source...for listening to music of any decade.

I think terrestrial radio started sucking when the Telecommunications Act was passed in 1996. Even with as much music as I like, I always have to switch back and forth to hear good songs consistantly. You can tell there's a change in this - ya know how, alot of '80s songs invariably mentioned the radio in the lyrics or the title? You'd never see that now, lol. Even classic rock stations beat the death out of maybe 50 songs over and over again.

I think Hits stations were best in the first two-thirds of the '90s. At that point, 1991+ were "current hits", '80s songs were the most common (similar to now, but more variety of artists and songs - since it was very recent times, even if no longer cool), and even some '70s were still hanging around.

As for the question: mostly from my WMP playlist now, though I have lots of mixtapes I put on too.

I can't help it. I know that it's going to ruin my hearing some day, but when those cranking 80's songs come on, i blast away!  People probably think I'm an old fart trying to be a teenager again, but I don't care!

I use to listen to 80's web stations on my computer at work until the bleeping I.T. police started blocking all the web-sites.  >:(

I hear you Class of 84, we're not allowed to stream here at work either.  Thank god for my iPod!  I don't blast it too bad unless it's a REALLY good song!

Hmmmmmm..........

These days I get my '80s in the following ways:

-Cassette
-CD
-Karaoke (Ha! Betcha didn't see THAT one coming!)

I used to listen to the radio occasionally, but all the good '80s sessions have been drowned out by crap!

When I get my computer this upcoming month, I plan to have a set list of about 100 songs or so, at my disposal.

this software called mymp3mymp3 is free on the web to download. it records directly from your audio card.record streaming 80's internet radio..now i'vw got so much 80's stuff(i already was deep in it) that i'm having a ball. it's not illegal (to m knowlege)to record the radio streams....yet...the neat part of this software is that after the music(or whatever)is downloaded,it can turn all recorded files into mp3 format so you can then burn them to cd and play them back on your cd  player,ipod,etc..try this software out..i have alot more 80's stuff now for it.  again it's free..they  may have a premium version, but i don't think so.it's beena while since i've been their home page. usually when i listen to my 80's,i'm inside in the living room with my dog..i used to spend an hour ata time ijn my car listeninf til my cd player in there quit working..all of a suuden the ting just started spitting my cd's back out .,....bummer...i never got into mp3 players or ipods..yet..maybe though soon..i don't know

You can get ones with not much storage for fairly cheap.  I just like to be able to have the music of hundreds of cd's on something the size of a deck of cards or smaller!  :)

I can understand that...but the idea of having headphones stuck in my ears for a long period of time doesn't appeal to me a great deal.

I wonder how much they go for at Best Buy; I still have a couple of gift cards.

You just plug speakers into it or listen to it in your car, I rarely use my headphones.

Like the majority of my recorded music, it is on my WMP, conveniently so that I can hear them when at the computer.
