I like both.  Mostly, it depends on my mood.

At work during the day, I am normally listening to Heavy Metal.  But on the evenings when I drive, I am normally listening to New Wave.

New Wave has:

a-ha
Depeche Mode
Pet Shop Boys
New Order
Devo
Talking Heads
Duran Duran

Hair Metal has:

Van Halen
Whitesnake
Def Leppard

Out of bands I like (there's some I missed). New wave wins. I like a little hair metal but I'm a new waver.

Hair Metal is what made the 80's the best decade for music.

I totally adore new wave! Definitely my choice!

I utterly loath hair metal. It's such useless fluff. To me, late 80s hair metal is probably the worst thing to happen in contemporary pop music since 1950.
