Subject: U.K. Vs. U.S. battle of the bands

Written By: LittleMissUsername on 05/24/07 at 9:11 am

the artists have to be some what matched, like..

Missing Persons Vs. Siouxie and the Banshees (they both have female leads)
or
Joe Jackson Vs.  Elvis Costello (solo artist)
and
B52's  Vs.  ABC  (both have fun and silly songs)

The winners.... Missing Persons, Elvis Costello and B52's  .....Yay U.S.A.
There's really no point, other than it's  fun  to do :P

This is a cute idea for a topic.  I would like to point out though, that both Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello are English.

Anyhoo, Bangles vs. Bananarama.  I'd choose the Bangles.

I totally disagree!

I think Def Leppard are an awesome group...

...much better than Van Halen (who are just 'okay', IMHO)!

For the most part, I think English groups of the 80's had a much better sound than their American counterparts... :)

I knew I would ruffle a few feathers with this one.

But I think Def Leppard's first couple of albums are awesome, but beginning with Hysteria, they have all been crap.
Nothing can compare to the first 6 VH albums. Nothing. They are all pure masterpieces. IMHO

I don't think that is a good comparison, yes they are both metal but very different styles of it.

Ahem.. I suppose I'd better get involved here.

Venom (UK) - Metallica (USA)

Metallica Wins.

Mötley Crüe (USA) - Iron Maiden (UK)

Maiden wins, no doubt.

Hard to compare Maiden though, seeing as they were a New Wave of BRITISH heavy metal band.. and most American bands never really worked that out, they all took that and bastardized it in to thrash (which I'm all for - Bastardization is beautiful.)

Apples and Oranges.  The Police were steeped in that punk/reggae groove and the Cars were slick and synthesized!  IMHO, they each are peerless in their respective venues.

Rick Springfield Vs Billy Idol

I can't decide, but I'm pretty sure that in a  bar room brawl, Billy would mop the floor with pretty boy Springfield.  Who wins???

You mean, mixed up like.. the sex pistols being a bunch of passe wankers who now own country estates, whereas the Ramones were actually seriously troubled f**kjobs who are mostly dead now?

Bollocks.

Well, not to White Zombie, they're good.

I personally like The Ramones, they're more listenable than most of the 'punk-era' bands, who were just a whole bag of wank.

I can honestly say that anybody who was a punk fan back in the day would be a huge grindcore addict because the same basic elements are there. Unintelligible lyrics, an exceptionally fast bass and drum line, no solos.

i dunno, a lot of people whose musical tastes i respect like the ramones. i just have never been able to hear what they're hearing. it's weird. i owe them no ill will, i just dunno why people like them.

i remember from back in the day the distinction between punk and hardcore was pretty much carved in stone. and a lot of those bands, DK and black flag and marginal man, that i liked were hardcore, not punk. sex pistols were about the only punk band i liked.

Hardcore is far better.

I'm all about Minor Threat, Budgie, Anti-Nowhere etc.. can't say I'm a fan of Black Flag though. California or U.K hardcore bands were the only ones really worth listening to.

Black Flag was good, and had a few good songs. I think that  mostly guys liked Black Flag.  I always recall the Skaters and BMX dudes blasting it. (along with drawing the logo all over)

Now, the Clash had  wider appeal.  And I feel, better musicians.
I'm sure to some they were posers because they got some radio play.
8) The Clash are still the winners! 8)
Maybe it wasn't a fair and even pairing.

How about a minor compromise:

U.K. ---- Asia ( Carl Palmer of ELP and Steve Howe of YES)

U.S. ---- The Starship

The score still counts it belongs to the U.K.
