Love the Fixx!  Tough choice for me.  By the tiniest margin, I picked Are We Ourselves.  But I almost picked One Thing Leads To Another.  BTW the Reach The Beach album is terrific!

"Shuttered Room" and "Reach the Beach" were great records.  "Phantoms" had some good songs (especially "Sunshine in the Shade," "Are We Ourselves), but for the most part it was dull.

For me it's Red Skies.  I really got into that one when I purchased their Greatest Hits CD back in the 90s.  The version that appears on their 'React' album in 1987 is better than the 'Shuttered Room' original, but they are both very good :)

For me it's Red Skies.  I really got into that one when I purchased their Greatest Hits CD back in the 90s.  The version that appears on their 'React' album in 1987 is better than the 'Shuttered Room' original, but they are both very good :)

"Red Skies" always reminds me of the summer of '84.  That's when I was listening to "Shuttered Room" the most.  I'd played "Reach the Beach" to death over the previous year.  Overall, I like "Shuttered Room" even better as every song is cool.  "Reach the Beach" had a few dogs on it on side 2 (that's how old I am, I still think of "albums" having two sides!), but the "Reach the Beach," "Saved by Zero," "Sign of Fire," "Running," and "Opinions" are absolutely top-notch songs!

"Opinions" still puts a knot in my stomach as it reminds me of arguing with my old man at the time.  The actual subject of the song refers to a romantic relationship gone bad, but they lyrics for me morphed into the horrific mind games my dad and I used to play.  In the end, his "opinions" would always get the best of me.  The music itself has the sort of nervous pressure I'd feel when the sh*t was about to hit the fan with my dad.  "I saw it coming...you saw it his way!"
