* Malcolm McLaren and the World Famous Supreme Team
** Malcolm McLaren and the Bootzilla Orchestra
*** Malcolm McLaren and Alison Limerick
+++ World Famous Supreme Team Show
++ World Famous Supreme Team
+ Malcolm McLaren vs. Rakim and Roger Sanchez
1982 - Buffalo Gals
1983 - Soweto
1983 - Double Dutch
1983 - Duck For the Oyster
1984 - Hey DJ
1984 - Madame Butterfly
1985 - Carmen
1989 - Something's Jumping in Your Shirt
1989 - Waltz Darling
1989 - House of the Blue Danube
1990 - Deep in Vogue
1990 - Operaa House
1992 - Magic's Back
1998 - Buffalo Gals Stampede
To my knowledge, nor McLaren or the World Famous Supreme Team had hits in the US Hot 100
♦ Neneh Cherry's 1989 hit 'Buffalo Stance' is based on 'Buffalo Gals'
♦ Eminem sampled 'Buffalo Gals' in his (piece of crap) 2002 hit 'Without Me'
♦ Mariah Carey sampled 'Hey DJ' in her 1997 hit 'Honey' (and I must say, she did a good job with it)
♦ In 1994, Lighter Shade of Brown took 'Hey DJ' to the Top 40 in the UK (UK #33) and Canada (CAN #3)
♦ In 1997, N-Tyce took 'Hey DJ (Play That Song)' (as their version was called) to UK #20

For me, it's 'Hey DJ' followed by 'Madame Butterfly'
I'd actually forgotten McLaren originally did 'Hey DJ' until just a little while ago. The original 12" mix of it is just fabulous!

I first heard 'Buffalo Gals' when it first stormed the British Top 40 (back in the days when chart countdowns were worth listening to!) and remember thinking to myself...'what a strange record!'
It wasn't the first record to feature 'scratching', but it the first one to go mainstream...
My choice is 'Double Dutch' (no, I never tried it!) which evokes fond memories of the summer of '83...
♦ In 1994, Lighter Shade of Brown took 'Hey DJ' into the US Top 40 (so I am told), but I can't find verification. It reached #3 in Canada
Correct, but the wrong country...it scraped into the Top 40 here in Britain! (#33)
Their only US Top 40 entry was 'On A Sunday Afternoon' from the same year (#39)

This is quite a surprise :o
Although it certainly explains why I couldn't find US chart info lol

Double Dutch - fantastic song! We loved it as kids. They also did a remix of it in the late 90s and it went down a treat in clubs!

"Buffalo Gals"
Though I don't like Eminem's "Without Me", it kinda introduced me to the song :D

Madame Butterfly for the scratch opera arrangement. Great synth textures. The English lyrics, however, are dumb.
The extended mixes are even better.
Double Dutch is also great.
It preceded the "Homeland" South African pop fad of the late '80s/early '90s.

This harem one is a little racy, reminds me of something my cousin would do if she had the budget~

1989 - Something's Jumping in Your Shirt :)
As performed by "Malcolm McLaren and the Bootzilla Orchestra (Featuring Lisa Marie)", to the best of my knowledge (at least, that's what it says on my 7").
This was also his biggest hit over here, reaching #8.
Other chart data:
Buffalo Gals............................................b/u
Madame Butterfly: Un Bel Di Vedremo......#16
Waltz Darling.........................................#19
The Opera House...................................#15
