From the examples of slasher film given above the only film I have seen of this ilk is the orignal Halloween which was made in the late 70s.

finally someone else who has seen Madman. Aside from the last 20 minutes of Halloween it is the scariest slasher film I have ever seen. It haunted me for weeks after I saw it. I have it on DVD but am too scared to watch it... partly because I am afraid it will scare me but mostly because i am afraid it won't.

Madman is a very popular slasher movie. there are lots of people who've seen it  :).

but don't you think the part where the heroine and her boyfriend are swirling around in the hot tub is unintentionally hilarious?  ;D

Until I came on this board I had never met anyone, other than high school friends I watched it with, who had seen it. There have been several horror film topics posted since I have been on this board and Madman isn't mentioned all that often.

something interesting about that movie is that it was directed by a woman and written by a woman which is pretty cool considering the content is pretty much young girls being brutalized.

also i forgot to mention that i like sleepaway camp

'Sleepaway Camp' is so creepy and depressing  :-\\.

I LOVE 'Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers', though!

Halloween II and the original Friday the 13th are good. I don't really care for 80s slashers as a whole.

April's Fool Day is also a pretty good film.
