Subject: Stand by Me

Written By: Flameon on 09/19/07 at 5:23 pm

I was in the supermarket a couple of days ago and I saw this film on sale. It kind of made me nostalgic. I believe I was the same age as one of these guys in the movie, circa 1986, when the movie came out. Pre-teen years. The rest of them of them were in their mid-teen years.

Some other type of movies that fit this genre is lord of the flies.

There is another one that I can't think of right now. Something like train or transportation or something of the sort. Not train spotting. But it fits this genre.

I love this film so much!  The original story by Stephen King appears in his book "Different Seasons", and there are alot of people who don't know that, or who don't even know it's based on a story by Stephen King

Until like the early 90s, I had no idea it was a Stephen King story

this is one of my favorite films.  I liked the narration by Richard Dreyfuss as a grown up Gordie nostalgically remembering the experience of his adventures and life as a 12 year old boy with his friends, and The Wonder Years did the same thing with the narration.  a memorable is scene is when Gordie tells the others the story he wrote about Lard Ass and the Barf-o-rama at the pie eating contest. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0Je5x8lCPJG1j8BB1ujzbkF/SIG=120noduql/EXP=1190353317/**http%3A//planetsmilies.net/vomit-smiley-31.gif

I own this one. I've watched the commentary with Rob Reiner, and it's probably one of the few commentaries I can tolerate (as many really bore me to death) I really love this movie and the soundtrack. A great coming of age flick!

Movie might have been "The Journey of Natty Gahn".

Occasionally I got to partake in a normal boyhood.
When I did, it was much like "Stand By Me."

A major theme in the movie is confronting bullies (Ace, Eyeball, and those clowns) and dealing with mean adults (the fathers of Gordie, Chris, and Teddy, and Milo the junkman), which is something I had to do a lot in my childhood/adolescence.

One thing that I always found dopy about the movie is when they finally find the body of the dead kid, it looks like a mannequin.  A body lying in the woods for two weeks in August does not look like that!  I understand why they did it their way; a ghastly corpse in advanced decomposition would distract from the points Rob Reiner was trying to emphasize.

I really like this movie.
It's hard to believe that Vern Tessio grew up to look like this...
