Subject: Matthew Wilder... forgotten gem

Heard this on the radio yesterday just as I was driving past my old childhood home. Matthew Wilder's 1983 hit "Break My Stride". It certainly puts a smile on your face.  :)

I wouldn't say it's forgotten - in fact, it's one of those '80s songs which has never really lost popularity over the years on the radio. More people would probably recognize it from the rhythm as opposed to the artist or the title, though.

Personally it reminds me of 1988 or '89ish because that's when I think I first started hearing it.

It is one of those songs where if I saw the title and artist I wouldn't have a clue what it was, yet if I heard it, I'd know it. I wonder how many other songs there are out there which are lost in obscurity that way. I actually had to Google the lyrics to find out what song it was yesterday. So forgotten is probably the wrong word, I agree.

I have great memories of this song.  I still love it! :)

Ever heard the awesome remake? ... In 1996, an international dance duo called Unique II covered it, and it became a Top 40 hit in several countries (ones I know:  #2 in Australia, #27 in Canada).  As popular as it was though, it did not chart in the US or UK

When I was younger, I sometimes used to get certain artists confused if a song by one artist sounded kinda similar. I always thought it was like a Toto song, has anyone ever thought that?

I thought it was Eddy Grant or someone Afro-caribbean... I was shocked when I saw the video this afternoon... haha.

Not too sure about the 1996 cover.  :-\\

Terrific song.....I haven't heard it in a long time. This song was played from time to time on AC stations in the 90's.

I dropped "Break My Stride" on my show a couple weeks ago.  My favourite MW tune is "The Kid's American".

It's a catchy song

Puff Daddy or whatever he calls himself sampled the chorus in one of his (c)raps in the mid 1990's  ::)

Though didn't know it was a sample until later  :P
