Subject: The The

Written By: whistledog on 11/04/07 at 11:41 am

The The are a group from England who have had on and off again success in the UK with several singles.  Anyone else like this band ?

With members who've come and gone, Matt Johnson remains the core of the group and only original member.  Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr was a member from 1988-1992.  I have their 2 DISC collection '45 RPM: The Singles of The The' and it's great.  'Perfect' is still my favourite song from them

I do!  My favourite tracks by them include "This Is The Day", "Uncertain Smile" and "Infected". :)

I only have heard one of their songs, "This is the Day," primarily because of it's current heavy use on the M & M commercials.  :)

Wow, surprised that "The The" was mentioned on this messageboard.
One of my favorite "bands", Matt Johnson always was pushing for different sounds.

My fav albums were Mind Bomb (w/Johnny Marr) and Soul Mining.  8)
Classic 80's albums.

BTW, has anyone had the same frustration trying to look up info on them in a search engine?
Try looking up "The The" on Google or All Music Guide...

Yes, it is very difficult.  Before I had their greatest hits CD, I had a heck of a time trying to find their songs on P2P servers

I've been meaning to check them out, since Johnny Marr is in the group.

I'm a fairly strong The The fan.  I went to a boarding school in years 11 and 12 and I roomed (more like cubicled) with a guy that put 'Infected' on heavy rotation, at first I hated it, then I was like yeah, and finally ...I had to have the album, and I've never looked back.  I still think 'Infected' is 'his' best album (The The is Matt Johnson) but all his stuff is good.  He, for mine, is one of the best lyricists in 80's pop music.

Interesting musician, Matt Johnson.  He started as a tape-op at the age of 13.  That first The The album came out when he was 19 or something.
