Thanks for your suggestions - my sis-in-law reminded me that my stuffed doll - had a passport too - my dad gave me which was decorated with a fedora and "I went to Russia" t-shirt. It was part of a fad in the late 80's and I can't remember the name. Nor can I find it to post a picture :-[ These were before beanie babies or build your own bear. Any ideas? thanks

I still have the stuffed teddy bear I got when I was born: it was a gift from my grandmother.
No ideas with the name of your bear, but it does sound familiar.

was it from the North American Bear Company? they had bears for all occasions.
