Subject: Mtv finds the abbreviation of Homo Sapien in Devo lyrics too offensive
Written By: ChuckyG on 04/11/08 at 8:46 am
Apparently Jocko Homo has had the word "homo" starred out in the lyrics and every song title listing on the Mtv (& VH1) websites. The network that brings us endless reality shows with plenty of sex apparently doesn't know the difference between the word homo as an insult or as an abbreviation for the word homo sapien.

We go now, God made man

Could explain why that song never charted in the Hot 100. MTV held alot of power in helping songs hit the US charts
There was another song in the early 80s called 'Homosapien' by Pete Shelley that actually made a very explicit reference to gay sex. It was also not a hit in the US Hot 100 and was even banned by the BBC

Even if it WERE about homosexuals - it shouldn't be offensive. And if it were offensive, it wouldn't matter, as they are allowed to use that term on VH1 and MTV shows anyway.

In the early 80s though in the dawn of MTV, stuff like that was censored cause it was deemed vulgar.
