Subject: Black Teen Singer?

Written By: Homer on 05/29/08 at 11:34 pm

I'm trying to remember the name of a very young pop/soul singer from the 80s.  I remember her as a very pretty black girl, maybe around 16?  I know it wasn't Stacy Lattisaw, who was another youngster from around that time. Does anybody have any idea?  There couldn't have been that many teen singers.  Thanks.

Don't know what part of the 80s you are thinking...and while they weren't teens...well maybe you might be thinking of one of these fine singers?

Stephanie Mills http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx2t3wxAVng

Deniece Williams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOmKYQnzaXM

Lisa Lisa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjkRoHcBedE

Cherelle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOmKYQnzaXM

I'm trying to remember others...my brain seems to be on leave at the moment though.

Thanks for the tries so far, but none of the above.

Tracie Spencer's a good guess -- I had forgotten about her, but she's not the one.  When I try to remember what this singer looked like, I imagine what Rudy Huxtable actress looks like now -- darker skinned and very pretty.  But around 16 or 17 as I remember.

I think maybe her name started with a C?  Not Cherelle.  I could be totally making that up though.  I don't think she was a one-hit wonder, I think she had at least a couple of minor hits, but of course I can't remember them.... :-\\

Thanks for the help.

I think maybe your talking about Shanice Wlison but she went by just by "Shanice" back then. She had hits like "I Love Your Smile" and I think "Saving My All For You"(something like that)in 1992 but she was around in the late 80's too. "When I See You Smile" was a hit for Shanice in early 1999 as well.

"Shanice" and "Tracie Spencer" were 2 R&B teen singers in the late 80's/early 90's.

Wow, I just checked out a couple of vids and she was cheesier and more borderline teen trashy than I had remembered. I was remembering an innocent teen singing sweet R&B tunes.  And hey, now she's all grown up, really hot and married to that guy Flex from that stupid syndicated sitcom 'One on One'.  Interesting.
