Subject: Popeye Movie Set is now a theme park!

They created the village for the movie set… and left it intact when they finished filming. It’s a theme park now!

It’s in Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, just south of Italy.
The movie was one of those weird things, that you either hated or loved. I disliked it when I first saw it, but it kind of grew on me like a fungus over the years.
I discovered this when looking up Harry Nilson stuff, apparently he scored the movie soundtrack.

I used to have a cassette copy of the 1980 Popeye Soundtrack, but the tape snapped it was so old. Lucky I still have my vinyl copy. The movie definately is an acquired taste, but it was great! Paul Dooley is still a character actor with bit parts in many movies, and everytime I see him, I still picture him as Wimpy LOL
TRIVIA: In a Season 3 episode of 'Mork and Mindy', Mork is hanging out with his little friend Leroy, and remarks that if he's a good boy, he'll take him to see 'Popeye' again ;D

that is SO cool! 8) I always loved that movie, that's so neat that they used the set for something productive.

Popeye must be one of the earliest movies I remember seeing in the cinema as a child. All I remembered was that it was a rather dark film. Anyway looking back on adult eyes, the sets were great and I'd definitely visit! I just need to somehow get me to Malta... hmmm!
