Subject: New Duran Duran treasures from the archive!

Written By: Durandy on 12/12/08 at 9:12 am

Hello!

This is my first time in this forum, and I hope there are some Duran Duran fans in here! I'm a Duran poster archivist, and while it has been quite a successful year for the band, it's been particularly rewarding for my archival efforts.  As Duran wraps up their Red Carpet Massacre tour, I am still tracking down amazing promotional posters from around the world.  For those devoted Duranies out there,  I thought I might share some of the sweet acquisitions I have recently welcomed into the fold.  I hope you enjoy this little view to a thrill!

This poster's image is taken from a televised 1982 performance in Italy:

The Belgium promo below is actually identical to one I already have, printed in blue! This purple-printed edition was definitely an unexpected find.

The Munchen promo from the Strange Behaviour Tour joins a series of similar posters in the archive, each advertising different shows.  There were two poster styles from the German leg of the 1987 tour; this was one presentation, and the other consisted of a red & black flag/star graphic design. It's interesting to see such poster diversity within one specific country during a single tour.

A simple, understated gem from 1993, heralding the release of The Wedding Album. Even without any picture of the band, I think this poster captures the dramatic anticipation that came with Duran's big 'comeback'.

A promotion from the band's 2008 Italian tour, this poster is a spectacular Subway size (60" x 40").

Here's another Subway promo, from the Jesolo show in Italy. The promotional information on the bottom is actually a sticker that's been affixed, using unknown adhesives which could affect the paper over time. It helps to have a poster doctor on call in cases like this!

Finally, a stunning acquisition, promoting the Spritz On The Beach show in Italy. Larger than life, colorful and truly unique -- just like the band.

Thanks so much for your interest, and I wish you all a wonderful, Duran-tassstic weekend!

Sincerely,
Durandy

Excellent poster collection.  That first one reminded me of just how hot John Taylor was....heck he still is hot.  He has aged well.

Ha ha ha! Thanks soooo much for your post Dagwood! Your kind words are very appreciated, and your feedback is just the sort of thing that keeps me going. Such fond memories which are anything but careless! I'll try to bring you more soon.

Hello!

This is my first time in this forum, and I hope there are some Duran Duran fans in here!

There WAS a time when I just thought of them as 'Drone Drone'.  However, thanks to someone I dated a few years back, a big fan of theirs, I got into some of it.

Wouldn't call myself a fan exactly .... (except when I'm in my 'alter-ego' ChuckyG  ;)  ;D ... the owner of this site mode .... who IS a big fan, along with lead mod Tam, I believe)

So ..... I've gotten to like some / most  of their classic songs ... probably 'Wild Boys'; 'Ordinary world'; 'Union of the Snake' ... and 'Save a prayer' (my fave) ... being the pick.
