Subject: MTV Top 100 Music Videos of 1988

Written By: woops on 01/04/09 at 3:20 am

Found this list of MTV's Top 100 videos from 1988.

Any opinion, videos/songs you agree or disagree on...

While #1 is an  OK song (they had better), the video's average.

Def Leppard "Pour Some Sugar On Me"  spent 68 days at #1 in "Dial MTV" (heard on some tv special a few years ago), which was the most for that show.  A great song, though the video's just another typical concert clip.

"Smooth Criminal" should've been on the Top 10, which is personally my favorite video from MJ.

Bon Jovi "Bad Medicine" is also a good clip with a cameo from Sam Kinison and also footage filmed by the fans. "Rag Doll" from Aerosmith is another classic, which was filmed in New Orleans.

MTV doesn't do music videos any more - they could do a "Top 100 lamest reality shows that we subjected the poor unsuspecting fools to"

But, to stay on topic - Guns n Roses? #1? Puh - leeze!!!

I like most of those songs on the list. Especially the Billy Ocean and the Terrence Trent D'Arby jams! LOL!.

I noticed MJ's "Man in the Mirror" is on the list. Do you know which version of the video it is? There's two, The original version that looks like a Sally Struthers ad with starving kids and scenes from Chernobyl and warfare and stuff, or is it the one with concert footage spliced  in from Moonwalker? (I prefer the Moonwalker version more because it's not depressing.  :-\\ )

I always find these lists interesting as it seems that in later years it was more about the song than video content.  I agree that "Smooth Criminal" should have made the top 10.  Good to see "I've Got My Mind Set On You" come in at #8.
