I know a lot of guys who would get up(probably still do) early in the morning to watch the morning exercise shows.  Mind you, not one of them ever exercised anything more than their imaginations  ;D

I can't recall watching any of them but in the UK there was Mad Lizzie on TV-AM and Diana Moran (the Green Goddess) on BBC Breakfast Time.

That's the other one.  I could picture him but not his name.  I also couldn't remember when he started.  I didn't watch breakfast television

are we that predictable Danoota?  ;D    I must have watched hundreds of those morning shows and just as you concisely stated, never exercised one time  ;D

I'll add one of my personal fav's and that was    Lilia's Yoga and You

I was shocked to see Mr Motivator still at it!  ;D

And Mad Lizzie will forever remind me of my childhood and early mornings watching TV-AM.

I think Richard Simmons is the reason why I like Prince now.  :o

I remember being four or five and seeing Richard "Sweatin' to the Oldies" in my gym class in grammar school and it NEVER ONCE phased me that it was odd for a grown man to be jumping around in a sparkly top and short-shorts to "Respect".  ;D

Then Prince pranced into my life with the backless trousers and the rest as they say is history. (A strange one at that, but history) LOL.

Was Jack Lalane still working out, or was he hawking Juicers by then?  ;D

there used to be a short, i think as they called it on cable in-between shows back around the early 80's, anyways this one was a group of young women about 5 or 6 doing a dance/arobics workout in a circle wearing one piece bathing suits!  and the music was a techno disco style, i think it was called aerobasize?it was totally mesmerizing! it about 15 min long, every time they showed it i couldnt stop watching!

Nope, not after the 20 minute workout.

The internet is a wonderful thing.  Double retro goodness for finding it on an Angelfire site, something I thought that died with Geocities, but there it is.  Everything you wanted to know about the show, screengrabs of all the performers, and something that shouldn't surprise any man of a certain age  -- the fact that the guy who produced it started producing soft porn a few years later.

Richard Simmons ?

You're doing it wrong.

So that's what they called it back then...

"WARNING: The following program depicts exercises which, depending on your physical condition, may be hazardous to your health. You are, therefore, warned not to attempt any of these exercises without consulting your doctor. Even with such approval, each exercise should be done in moderation and should not be performed if tired or to the point of fatigue or pain. Do not over exert yourself."

Stop looking at me like that.  It's a reference to a song called "One Hand Clapping".  It's right there, Side A, Track 3, on Shiva's :20 Minute Workout (The Original Music), the official soundtrack to the show.  Pure early-80s porn-groovy disco instrumental cheeziness, with song titles to match.

I think Aerobicise was on Showtime so you had to have cable to see that hot workout. probably one of the most recorded workout shows on tv, actually, it was probably the only one that got recorded and by guys that never did aerobicise.
they had some of the best camera work on that show  ::)
