Subject: Help Finding 80's Song

I need help finding a song by an artist who I think was a one hit
wonder because the radio only mentioned the song going #1 on the dance charts.
I can't remember the lyrics to save my life, but I do remember them saying the singer was
a big fan of Madonna, and I do remember the song had (bare with me as I describe this)
like some echoing effect on the chorus. It reminded me of something used in modern songs.
Sorry if this isn't enough info., but if you have the SLIGHTEST clue on who it might be, please tell me.
