Appraised at $25,000, the perfectly preserved IMSAI 8080 and its associated peripherals will go sale to the general public soon.

I wonder how many of those it would take to match the power of one average 2010 smart phone...  ???

When does the computer from "Electric Dreams" hit the auction block?

Actually, the "Electric Dreams" computer was a prop with Bud Cort inside it.  We'd have to get Bud to agree to be auctioned on E-Bay.  Who knows, he might do it!

Oh, you can get that easily for less than $25K... Just visit your local surplus store :)

WOPR, cool as it looked, was a prop.  Although the Imsai 8080 was a little before my time, it was a real machine, and yes, I've heard one play music.  If I had the cash, I'd grab it and donate it to the Computer History Museum.

It all ties in with War Games.  Have you had a Whopper lately?  Their meat is older than Dabney Coleman ;D

The only winning move is not to play.

Later.  Let's play Global Thermonuclear War.

(I love the way Joshua just shrugs its electronic head and says "Fine..." with just a hint of dejection in its voice...)

How did it finally go for?

Good question.

If it was the IMSAI 8080 from the movie... well, hard to guess.  Anyone who wanted it for its film pedigree wouldn't care if it worked or not.  And anyone with the capability of restoring it to working order wouldn't care that much if it was the one from the movie or not.  Judging from eBay, most of these machines go for somewhere between $1000-3000, so $25K for The One From The Movie wasn't that crazy a premium.

I always thought it should have been called W.O.R.P. (pronounced 'warp').  W.O.P.R. just sounds too beboppy to me, not high-tech enough. :(
