Subject: Trying to identify a toy I had growing up

Written By: crazyp83 on 08/30/10 at 2:32 am

Years ago i had this racing toy that the best way i could describe it as it had a screen, steering wheel and i believe a gear shifter.  The pictures on the screen just looped over and over and you could control a car left and right. It also made a simulated car engine noise. I wasn't really sure what decade to post under as i was unsure as to how old i was when i had it.  It's probably an 80's toy based on how vague my memory of it is.  I'm tying to find out its name so i can find it on the internet or eBay because i lost all my childhood toys in a house fire my family had, and I'm feeling nostalgic.  any help identifying it would be appreciated.

not that.  I think it was white or off white and much larger than the digital derby.  The shape looked kind of like a tv.  The screen i think worked kind of like the fiber optic Christmas trees where it had a piece of plastic with colors printed on it, a light behind it and it was rotated to give the illusion of movement.

I can picture it but I can not think of the name...I'll keep trying, though.

Thanks for the search suggestions, but no dice.  It was definitely not a hand-held.  I would say it stood about a foot tall, maybe a foot wide.  and I believe it took D size batteries.  I'm also not a 100% on the decade being born in 83 it could have been the late 80s or early 90's.  Thanks everyone for the help so far.

I think I had the same toy you are thinking of, but I can't remember what it was called. I just searched my basement, but it looks as though we got rid of this toy a few years back. It may have been around in the 80s, but I definitely owned it in the early-mid 90s. The closest thing I found is this:

This one is called Dashboard Adventures, however, it's a much newer/modern and more colorful version of the one I owned. I remember it being white with a dark blue steering wheel and more rectangular/blocky in shape.

I'm not 100% if the Tomy Turnin' Turbo is it or This other one i Found that is similar Learn to Drive Speedracer.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1l2hwjnE0E&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I wouldn't have found The Speedracer without you telling me about the Turnin' Turbo.  Thanks alot.  Now i think I'm going to ask my parents if they remember it.  I always had a lot of fun with this toy.  I would like to buy one for nostalgia sake.

We loved our Tomy Turbo, but before that in 1982 we had Champion Racer by Bandai!!! This was white.
