That is so f*cking retarded! Let's also ban songs that contain the words "cigarettes", "tobacco", "nicotine" because these words might encourage the young to take up this habit.  :-\\  this world is going down the tubes

Now look at them yoyos.  That's the way you do it.
Become the censor at the CBC.
That ain't workin.  That's the way you do it.
Money for nothing, and your speech ain't free.

That is so f*cking retarded!

Oh, discriminating against the sexually-active mentally-ill, now, are we?  :)

Of course, Canada's not exactly alone on this.  I've heard a radio version of Chamillionaire's Ridin in which they censored all references to firearms, drugs, alcohol, the 7 Dirty Words in George Carlin's routine, and the six-letter word beginning with "n".  Depressingly hilarious - I thought it was a digital audio feed that had random dropouts until I noticed what was going on.  The chorus is clean, but during the verses, just about every third syllable was faded out.

So, anyone wanna hear some 2 Live Crew? :)

They ban this song, yet songs like 'Sex (I'm A ...)' by Berlin and 'Boom Boom (Let's Go Back to My Room)' by Paul Lekakis were big radio hits in Canada back in the day, that I still hear sometimes on classic radio stations.

Why don't they ban songs that have sex in them? ::)

This probably won't be permament, though I wouldn't be surprised if a censored edit appears.

I thought there already was a radio (and video) edit taking out the second verse  ???

They're STILL fighting over the N-word in "Huckleberry Finn" and that book predates "Money for Nothing" by 100 years.  The point-of-view narrative is similar.  Mark Knopfler sings from the point-of-view of a blue collar American in 1985.  Did they use the word "******"? You bet they did!  I don't endorse the use of the word "******" to refer to homosexuals, but it bears cultural significance in "Money for Nothing," just as the word "n*gg*r does in Mark Twain's books.  I think the ruling is outrageous.  Simply outrageous.
>:(

BTW, figures it would take a Newfie 25 years to figure out the lyrics!

They should also ban "I Want Your Sex" By George Michael.

If they did that, it would impact the 'Beverly Hills Cop' films, which cannot happen because to me that is the greatest film trilogy of all time and I won't stand for some government telling me I cannot enjoy that song, the film (Beverly Hills Cop II) or it's soundtrack

And while we're on the subject...

We had this debate in another thread (which I can't find, but I know it's somewhere on this board), but back in the day, I used to think the line referred to Boy George, but apparently it referred to Elton John, which makes a lot more sense in context.

(He was so vain, I'll bet Boy George thought that song was about him.)

You're so vain, I'll bet the Canadians ban the song about you!

I always thought it was about Michael Jackson...possibly Boy George or Simon LeBon.  Maybe even Sting!
