Subject: 80s Patterns

Written By: apollonia1986 on 05/18/11 at 11:57 am

Hey Y'all!

I was wondering, I know that some WILD and crazy patterns came up on clothing in the 80s and I was wondering, could you tell me about some of your favorites or tell me where I can find pictures of these patterns. I'm doing sketches and would like the inspiration.

Thanks.

I usually hate plaid, but I like this jacket Brooke Shields is wearing.

Have you tried googling images of 80's fashions or 80's fabric or 80's patterns?

I seem to recall "paint splatter" prints were popular.

Buffalo Check/Plaid shirts were also popular.  Black and another bright color, I had a dress in turqoise and black.

Abstract prints usually in bright colors.

I remember helping a friend paint splat some black dungarees/overalls.  We used white fabric paint - it was lots of fun.

I had a fuschia pink and black check dress with a black waistcoat (vest)

I also had two or three black skirts that I would wear with a bright shirt and matching tights.  I had a pink, a yellow and three different red shirts.

black and white or black and red 'pop art' swirls were trendy in the UK for a while.

And paisley patterns

They just did an 80's thing for the last celebrity apprentice, and the pattern was zebra stripes it looked super 80's. Very cool!
