Subject: 80s Movies on Blu-Ray!

Written By: whistledog on 09/17/11 at 7:14 pm

More and more 80s movies are coming to Blu-Ray, so how about a thread to celebrate some of them upcoming or some already released!

I just picked up Poltergeist II on Blu-Ray, and it's good, but I just have one issue, and it's with the packaging.  See if you can guess what I am referring to ...

Here's some that are coming towards the end of this year ...

Three Amigos! (1986)
Footloose (1984)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985)
The Cannonball Run (1981)
Blue Velvet (1986)
Metropolis (1984)
Absence of Malice (1981)
See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1988)

I am guessing the packaging is a strain on the eyes? Very bright.

I like the idea that See no evil, hear no evil is out on Blu Ray though I very much doubt it's the type of film to persuade me to upgrade. I only have one Blu Ray movie so far and that's Terminator 2.

The original version or the "Skynet" version?

The "Skynet" edition has alot of great additional content, but the loading time for the menu to load up when you put the disc in is like 5 minutes.  When I first watched it, I thought my blu-ray player was broken lol

The Star Wars on Blu-ray takes a minute to load as well. And it isn't skynet. There isn't much on the disc's either. The movie, setup, scene selections and audio commentaries. There are 2 or 3 extra disc'a with all the extras...

i have poltergeist and terminator on blu-ray. also, star trek II, first blood, and donnie darko (the most 80s movie not to be made in the 80s). i've also got some classic 70s movies on blu-ray: clockwork orange, caligula, capricorn one. i love the way certain old movies look on blu-ray. clockwork orange is particularly gorgeous, surprisingly.

What's Man-Ray?

Man Ray (1890-1976)  born Emmanuel Radnitzky.  An American-born photographer who spent most of his career in Paris.  He was a friend of the Surrealists and Salvador Dali.

Here is a photo of one of his favorite subjects, the model Louise Kiki:

Just a pun on Blu-Ray.  I could have easily said Sting Ray!

Just the original. I saw it second-hand in a store and thought it might be a good way to test out the Blu Ray picture and whether I want to pursue the idea of leaning towards the format a little (might as well if I have a PS3 doing nothing). I'm thinking of giving my young niece my Disney films for Christmas so I can get the Blu Ray versions. Animation and CJI tends to work well with Blu Ray.

I need to look into 80's flicks on Blu-Ray, I surely don't have enough of them.
I tend to buy very FX driven movies on BluRay. (Avatar, Iron Man, etc...)
Although I do already have one of the ultimate 80's flicks, Fast Times At Ridgemont High on HD DVD!
