Let's warm this up a little.

  - Vicious Pink, Take Me Now, 1985.

I also found this nifty Razormaid mix of the original.  134BPM, heavy on the bass.

(I'm rather grateful there isn't a PMV of it.  Yes, I checked.)

Only aired once on Dr. Demento, March 9, 1986, but that was enough.

For any Germans who stumble across this, it was subsequently covered in German by JBO, and we've got a thread for songs we didn't know were covers

Before there was Rule 34, there was File 13.

She: "Hi! My name is Tammy, and I'm the kind of girl who'll do anything. You heard me, anything!"
He: "I like to watch."
She: "Whatever you desire.  I don't care.  I'm ready for anything.  I know you'll like it.  How 'bout you?  Do it, do it, d-d-d-d-do it.  Oh, you taste so good!  Tighter!  Uh-huh, uh-huh!  Ooh, ooh, aah.  Do dirty things to me.  I deserve it.  Call back later for more."

Rmx_jtwdTF_nzLk

  - File 13, Taste So Good, ca. 1984 (this Hot Tracks DJ service mix is, by definition, a little later than the 1984 original)

She: "Oh, it was good for me!  Was it alright for you, sir?"
He: "Terrific."

Insanely obscure trivia award opportunity: Around this time (late 80s), there was a phone-sex remix of The Cult's Love Removal Machine.  Someone called a phone sex line, recorded the results, and dubbed it into The Cult's hit single.  Am I the only person who remembers this?

Here's an obscure one from 1992: Ambient/electronic indie band from Toronto gets discovered by radio station in 1990, cuts an album, and does a gig at a large (but local) record store.

7S9OzHN_m6E

Electronic Dream Factory / EDF: 'Til Death's Side

Overlook the fact that the video is a VHS recording of a live performance at a local record store.  In fact, just kill the lights, slap on a pair of headphones and turn off the monitor.  There's also a little easter egg in there for anyone reading between the lines.  For a good time, play it as a slow dance number at a wedding reception and see if anyone does a spit-take.  Bonus points if you say "So that's why they called it that!" when the lights come up :)

Postscript: Artist was still creating music (and re-releasing a couple of older tracks) on an EP dated 2010.

Damn.  The EDF solo project came out within months of Cleopatra's founding in 1992

From an interview with Brian Perera on the start of Cleopatra, he called up Capitol and asked "How does one go about putting out a record that is unavailable in the US that you guys are just sitting on masters?", which sort of explains how they took over the whole "edgy alternative stuff that you could only get on vinyl or in the import section".

If you want to go DARK sexy, here's one of my favorites:

Neat.  Since I can't find the even-darker Front Line Assembly, Sex Offender (from 1994's Millennium) online, this'll do.

jysZywIyyTk

  - Xorcist, So Big, from 1991's Damned Souls.

The track samples from someone who ended up doing a cameo on Married With Children and making a techno album :)  This is the radio edit of the track; the only difference between this YouTube track and the "original unedited mix" is that a few samples got cut.  What's weird is that the missing samples are the same lines as the ones included in the radio edit.  There are just a few more of them in the original.  Or I've missed some.

I feel kinda sentimental about the time I bought this record.  I would skip school, go into Harvard Square, troll the record stores and buy stuff sight unheard if it looked cool enough.  8)

Back to the 80s:

Once upon a time, before MP3s and samples available on music retailers' websites, that was pretty much all you had to go on.  You heard it on the radio or in the club (and were lucky enough to have a DJ who told you what he played in the last set, in order), you heard about it via word of mouth, you told the guy behind the counter what you liked and asked him or her for a recommendation, or you stuck your fist into the rack of CDs and bought it like a lottery ticket.  Very rare was the record store that would let you listen to a prospective purchase before making a decision.  (HMV superstores like the one in the EDF video were one of the first - and only - chain retail record store exceptions.)

Really, back to the 80s:

That mid-90s techno artist I alluded to?  Yeah, I guess you could say she had name recognition dating back to the 80s :)

Obligatory Sexy Content: You don't wanna know how I found out.  It was a stumbling upon a tumblr for "Bella's Birthday Bash: Winter Wrap-Up, Friday March 23rd at the Black Swan", and the fine print read "advance tickets available at the Silver Snail", Toronto's semi-official comic book store.

And it turns out the Silver Snail has just moved to a new location.

I'm not saying I didn't like the song.  It was one of my guilty pleasures, but I didn't tell anybody, just like I didn't tell anybody about the Hustlers under my bed!
:-"WHHHHAAAAT!?!?"
I didn't have the Andy Griffith answer.
"Oh..." I muttered.
I was running through possibilities in my mind.  Maybe it's a kiddie version of Little Red Corvette.  A kiddie version of Little Red Corvette? Nah, get outta here.  Well, Mr. Gould is a harmless old queen, maybe he doesn't know the song's about a woman's privates either.  No way, though.  No grownup is going to have fourth graders singing, "Gotta pocket full of horses, Trojans, some of the used."  But Stuart just said he was reading the lyrics out of Mr. Gould's book.  Well, if that's the case, why doesn't somebody go read Mr. Gould his rights?

By that time we'd met up with my stepmother and I dropped the subject.  Things were different in 1984.  I dunno.  I'm sure it wouldn't go down the same way today, but I swear I remember my little brother telling me he was singing Little Red Corvette in music class at day camp!

Maybe I'll Facebook him about it tonight.
:o :o :o

"Do the other kids at camp know ALL the words to Little Red Corvette?"

If you know what the line about the Trojans means, it's appropriate to sing.  Besides, if Rihanna's Shut Up And Drive can get radio play, nobody's going to be freaked out when they figure out what the Corvette referred to.

Speaking of sexy songs of the 80s:

PFwom4D3i4g
  - Rough Trade, High School Confidential (with good video and audio)

Back in 1980, this was conisdered acceptable for the dancefloor as long as the words "bitch", "cream" and "screwin'" were censored (which only meant that everyone on the floor yelled them out loud)...  It was OK because our principal had no idea that the singer was a lesbian.  It sounds laughable now, but he thought Carole Pope's deep vocals were deep enough that the singer was a dude and that the song was about heterosexual attraction, and why would we suggest to him otherwise?  The slight fig leaf of ambiguity between whether she was singing about someone else's attraction or about her own attraction was part of the genius of the song.

(Along those lines, nobody - and I mean nobody - batted an eye to the Village People and YMCA.  The early 80s was a silly and naive era.)

I'm old enough to remember Musique's "Push Push in the Bush" (1978).  The kids used to chant in the playground with the grownups shifting uncomfortably in their shoes!

The redneck kids loved FGTH "Relax," but I knew something they didn't.  I thought about telling them, but I decided it would be more fun for them to wait until they went to jail to find out!

If you're only going by those 4 lines of lyrics, that song's not dirty at all!  I might say the exact same thing when California is experiencing a heat wave, because, believe me, when California gets hot, it's...CALIFORNICATION, FER SHURR!  ;)  No, but it really IS hot...both inside the house, and outside, and there is absolutely NO RELIEF...unless you either strip down...or grin and bear the incessant heat!  OOPS!  I'm not helping my case about the lyrics being squeaky clean...AM I, Dahling?

If you listen very carefully to that line in the song you can hear Sergio Galli, the guitar player, breathing like a dog in heat.  So no you're not helping your case about this song being squeaky clean.  ;D
So I'm fairly certain that Mark Holmes, the singer, wrote that song about some romantic encounter that he had with a girl that ended with him having his heart broken.  This says to me that Mark doesn't want to be in love anymore.  :)

Let's break this down shall we

I found your picture
hanging on the back of my door
won't give you my heart
no one lives there anymore

You said we're lovers
we could never be friends
the fascination ends
here we go again

Cause it's hot inside
when you're coming home
and if it's hot inside
isn't that enough
I'm not in love
I'm not in love
not in love
not in love

Could it be that
time has taken it's toll?
Won't take you so far
I am in control

You said we're lovers
we could never be friends
the fascination ends
here we go again

Cause it's hot inside
when you're coming home
and if it's hot inside
isn't that enough
I'm not in love
I'm not in love
I'm not in love
I'm not in love
In love.

It's hot inside
it's hot inside
IT'S HOT INSIDE!!
AND IT'S HOT OUTSIDE!!

COME ON!

GO
GO

Right! It's understandable.  Platinum Blonde was known for their spiky blonde hair, nice clothes, and wearing more makeup than most people's mothers did.  Although these days Mark and Sergio have toned down their hair and makeup quite a bit and the whole band is still wearing nice clothes.
In a manner of speaking Mark Holmes has been without his signature spiky blonde hair and trowels of makeup for approximately 30 years!

Okay, class, now let's review this.  From the top:

I guess I shoulda known
By the way you parked your car sideways
That it wouldn't last

See you're the kinda person
That believes in makin' out once
Love 'em and leave 'em fast

I guess I must be dumb
Cause you had a pocket full of horses
Trojan and some of them used

But it was Saturday night
I guess that makes it all right
And you say what have I got to lose?
And honey I say

Little red corvette
Baby you're much to fast
Little red corvette
You need a love that's gonna last

I guess I shoulda closed my eyes
When you drove me to the place
Where your horses run free

Cause I felt a little I'll
When I saw all the pictures
Of the jockeys that were there before me

Believe it or not
I started to worry
I wondered if I had enough class

But it was Saturday night
I guess that makes it all right
And you say, "Baby, have you got enough gas?"
Oh yeah

Little red corvette
Baby you're much to fast, yes you are
Little red corvette
You need to find a love that's gonna last

A body like yours (a body like yours)
Oughta be in jail (oughta be in jail)
Cause it's on the verge of bein obscene
(Cause it's on the verge of bein obscene)

Move over baby (move over baby)
Gimme the keys (gimme the keys)
I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine
(I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine)

Little red corvette
Baby you're much to fast
Little red corvette
You need to find a love that's gonna last

Little red corvette
Honey you got to slow down (got to slow down)
Little red corvette
Cause if you don't you gonna run your
Little red corvette right in the ground

(Little red corvette)
Right down to the ground (honey you got to slow down)
You, you, you got to slow down (little red corvette)
You're movin much to fast (to fast)
You need to find a love that's gonna last

Girl, you got an ass like I never seen
And the ride...
I say the ride is so smooth
You must be a limousine

Baby you're much 2 fast
Little red corvette
U need a love, u need a love that's
That's gonna last
(Little red corvette)
U got 2 slow down (u got 2 slow down)
Little red corvette

Cuz if u don't, cuz if u don't,
U gonna run your body right into the ground (right into the ground)

On the borderline between "sexy" and "crass", these guys showed up:

Probably NSFW lyrics:

- 2 Live Crew, We Want Some Pussy (from 1987 12" single)

Definitely NSFW lyrics:

Ahh yes.  The album that was banned in Broward County FL because the lyrics were supposedly "obsene" and had to be sold by record stores under the table because they were afraid of being arrested.
I'm happy that the anti obsenity laws were struck down there.  I don't see how they could have stopped the 12 year old boys from buying the album to be honest?

AC/DC Night Prowler.  Not exactly a "sexy" song but the PMRC did go after them because the letters in the band's name supposedly meant Anti-Christ/Devil's Children.  Where did Mrs Gore get all of these ideas?

Fundies.  "Night Prowler," if you were part of the crowd that had fallen for "Satanists" as the boogeyman-du-jour, could be misinterpreted as a song about incubi violating our innocent daughters.  Instead of, you know, a guy wanting to get laid, even if he and his girlfriend had a bit of a kinky roleplaying thing going on.

It came from the same place that caused people to think KISS stood for "Knights In Satan's Service": without the internet, there was no way to debunk urban legends, and once an urban legend got started from a completely fabricated Satanism scare (1980s) by fundies, things take on a life of their own amongst the political class.  The Internet has completely prevented this from happening, and the urban legends around Rainbow Parties (2003) and Jenkem (2007) and... whatever the next big moral panic is... well, it turns out the Internet has a way of making stupid propagate itself even faster than before.

Obligatory naughty music:

- AC/DC, Mistress for Christmas (look, 1990, 1989, 2013, 1981, they've got a song like this on every album, and they're all awesome.)

Year: 1985.  Date: April the Wineth.  Time: 21:41.  Level: 46th floor.  Even in 1985, we knew that some day the TV would watch you.  We also thought that the 8" laserdisc format, (vs. the 12" standard laserdisc format that was the size of a full LP!) was how we'd get our 3-minute videos.  Which was close, because discs and lasers did play into things for a while, but not quite how things played out.  Yes, 28 years ago, what strikes me most about this video is definitely its depiction of large cameras on robotic arms, laserdiscs, 4:3 aspect ratio CRTs, and home audio/video systems with impossibly complicated front panels.  That is absolutely what this video is about. ;)
