Subject: 80's nostalgia may fade amongst the general public...

Written By: wsmith4 on 07/20/12 at 8:53 am

But it will live forever in me!

What's not to love?  What's not to miss?  I will always fondly remember the best time in my life, the 80's!!!!

Goonies?  Good Enough.

Annual Goonies Day is June 7, every year. I missed the 2010 25th anniversary celebrations in Astoria, OR, but maybe I'll make the 30th in 2015.

I always enjoyed the 80's, one of the best times to be a kid.

if 80s nostalgia fades, the 90s will keep ping-ponging back and forth forever!

I always thought the 1980's were the best times to have good music and have less stress.

It'll be a decade for us people to cherish in our minds.

I'm trying to think of things that set the 90's apart from more recent decades...and can't. Maybe dirty torn jeans in a effort to recall grunge music? Carry around a medium sized cell phone to remember that cells started becomeing the norm? Maybe wear a beeper? I dunno...
It seems like the last 3 decades have been kind of vanilla as a whole.
Am I just too old or pop culture wise, was there nothing particularly memorable these last 30 years?

So, unfortunately, my childhood era--the 90s--will never ever be nostalgized. It will always, forever stand in goddamn Ronald Reagan's cheesy stupid gimmicky 80s shadow.

What the hell are you talking about? Have you not seen the endless posts from our younger members arguing about whether or not they're "90's kids?"

Seems like there's plenty of nostalgia for the 90's, it just hasn't hit in full force yet (but it will in the next 2-3 years).

January 1, 1990 to now is only about ~23 years, LOL.

But yeah, I would roughly agree that the 00's and 10's were/are '90s based' but then again the 70's and 80's were '60s based' in many ways...

I saw it for the first time about a year ago or so. Other than seeing the brat pack in their younger years, I thought the movie kind of sucked.  :-\\

Me too.  Never could understand the nostalgia for that particular movie.  Maybe because it was just a foreign concept for a rural, small-town, not wealthy girl like me.  Couldn't relate to the throwing money around and having life-crisisies because some guy didn't look my way.  :-\\  I dunno, maybe I just wasn't open to their certain type of victimization...

Yeah, it was sorta like the late-Xer kids' equivalent of their yuppie parents angsting over Thirtysomething or The Big Chill

As a late Xer, my parents were too old to care about Thirtysomething and The Big Chill, which left me a bit young to appreciate St. Elmo's Fire.  I imprinted on Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Ferris Bueller, with a dash of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.  I don't think I had a "serious" movie.

Fast Times is more emblematic of Gen-X than St. Elmo's.

Think about it --

;D Yeah, no one has had sex since the 80s decade ended.  We are a planet of 7 billion faithful monks and monkettes. It's a 7 billion-way tie in that Seinfeld bet.

Obligatory 80s Nostalgia Moment:

Can't it be both?  I mean, with what was going on under the table with Mare Winningham?  She sure won a slice of my cured pork back in the day!  *clopclopclop* :)

Hearing music from the 80s and watching cartoons from the 80s still triggers nostalgia in me.

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x361/MLP-Step/Extra/cute2.jpg

It's kind of funny, because I don't get that way for the 90s, even with me liking a lot more music from that decade. I was in high school in the early to mid 90s, so that could be the reason. The more I went to high school, the more I despised it.

Yes that is right. To explain what I was saying a little more clearly. The current decade beyond the 80's is only just beginning, but I don't see much different between it and the previous two that followed the 1980's. That is the 1990's and the 2000's.
We're now in the 2010's.... Three unique decades, with in my opinion, not much unique about them!

Ill-defined and fragmented? Try golden. And the nineties has evoking strong nostalgia since 2009ish. And it's only going to get stronger after some more time has passed.

So original game boys are looked at as the latest in technology in 2012? I don't think so and although they came out in the late 80s, were big in the 90s. Did people dress like Fresh Prince characters in 2008? I don't think so.
