Aren't they such an underrated band? Their first 3 albums, The Party's Over, It's My Life and Colour of Spring are all pretty much flawless. I like the songs that aren't singles, such as 'Have You Heard The News?', 'Candy' and 'Renee' as much as the single tracks.

Talk Talk got typecast as "one of those synth pop bands," which was unfair.  They started out as synthesizer-dominated on "The Party's Over" and "It's My Life," both of which are excellent.  Then "The Colour of Spring," "The Spirit of Eden," and "Laughing Stock" each ventured further into more organic sounds and longer song forms.  "The Colour of Spring" is my favorite because it retains a lot of the pop catchiness of early Talk Talk and the more expansive instrumentation of later albums.

Without Talk Talk I wonder if there would have been a Keane, or a Sigur Ros, or even a Radiohead.

The Party's Over is a fantastic album. Yes, synthpop but very good.  Talk Talk seems to have had two lives. First as a synthpop band and second as arguably the first post-rock outfit.

Synthpop Albums
The Party's Over (1982)
It's My Life (1984)
The Colour of Spring (1986)

Post-Rock Albums
Spirit of Eden (1988)
Laughing Stock (1991)
