Subject: Uncharted in North America: The Bluebells

The Bluebells were a pop band from Scotland who had a brief run of UK chart success in the early 80s.

Robert Hodgens (Bobby Bluebell) - Guitar
Kenneth McCluskey - Voice and Harmonica
Dave McCluskey - Drums
Craig Gannon - Guitar
Lawrence Donnegan - Bass

From 1982-1985, the band released 1 EP, 1 album and 6 singles (5 of which made the UK chart), the biggest of which was Young at Heart which made the UK Top 10 in 1984, and when re-released in 1994, soared straight to #1.  This song was written with Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama and originally appeared as an album track on their 1983 debut album Deep Sea Skiving

Through all the success they had, Cath is my pick for their greatest, and holds a place in my Top 10 greatest songs of the 80s!

HIT SINGLES

1983 - Cath
1983 - Sugar Bridge
1984 - I'm Falling (Down Again)
1984 - Young at Heart
1985 - All I Am (Is Loving You)

Though they never had any success in North America, I can tell you their stuff was released here.  I have a cassette copy of their album Sisters and the video of I'm Falling as seen below was recorded from Much Music (Canada's then version of MTV)

Just for the heck of it, here is the Bananarama version of Young at Heart.  It's good, but I still like The Bluebells version so much more!
