Subject: Uncharted Outside of Canada: The Arrows

Written By: whistledog on 07/27/13 at 6:03 pm

Not to be confused with the UK band of the 70s, these Arrows were a New Wave band that formed in 1981, and from 1982-1986, released 1 EP, 2 albums and 6 singles before calling it quits.  Do you like New Wave?  Then if you've never heard of this band before, give them a listen.  You won't be disappointed ...

The core members of the band were: Dean McTaggart (Voice), Rob Gusevs (Keys), Earl Seymour (Sax), Doug Macaskill (Guitar) and Michael Sloski (Drums).  Though they went unnoticed outside of Canada, their best US exposure was perhaps seen via the song Heart of the City which featured in an episode of Night Heat, an 80s cop drama which became the first Canadian TV show to air on a major US network.

Following their demise, lead singer Dean McTaggart went on to songwriting for other artists, one notable song he co-wrote was the popular 90s track Dark Horse by Amanda Marshall

THE ALBUMS
1982 - The Arrows (EP)
1984 - Stand Back
1985 - The Lines Are Open
1995 - Talk Talk: The Best of The Arrows

THE SINGLES
1984 - Meet Me in the Middle
1984 - Say It Isn't True
1984 - Never Be Another One
1985 - Talk Talk
1986 - Heart of the City
1986 - Chains

Don't let those chart positions fool you.  I remember all 6 of these songs being played on the radio.
