Subject: The 1980's Comedy Thread

Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 10/17/13 at 1:12 pm

So I was thinking we could have a series of threads where we can post our favorite comedic material from each decade. There is no limit on what type of media you can use. It can range from YouTube clips of television and radio shows or movies, to cartoons and comedic art. Just whatever you think is funny.  ;)

That is my favourite scene in that movie.  "And the rocket's red glare.  Bunch of bombs in the air" :D

"Enrico Polattzo saved the Queen!"

One I really liked was in Airplane! (1980) where everyone is taking turns shaking and slapping the distraught passenger

In Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), she's in the courtroom recounting the events and gets distraught all over again ...

Mr. Bill on SNL. Can't recall if this was 1979 or 1980 or 1981. Who cares, it's just funny.

What's great about this clip is that there's a few other subtle things I'd never caught before that make it even funnier. First, I love how when the dean calls Booger's name, he takes a drag off his cigarette, stands up, and then chucks his cigarette butt into Ogre's beer. Then, after Booger finishes his belch and has clearly won, Ogre looks totally crushed and the coach consoles him, and as they walk off the stage Ogre looks back at Booger with this really hurt look.  ;D

No installment of the Police Academy series was complete without at least one character winding up at the Blue Oyster Bar.  ;D

One of my favorite comedy sketches of all time. If Martin Short's awkward and clumsy take on Fred Rogers wasn't hilarious enough, what really sends it over the top is Eugene Levy's dead-on impression of Howard Cosell doing the play-by-play commentary. Pure comedy gold!  ;D

LOL - "He beat the woman unconscious with a puppet."

I used to love SCTV.

5 neat guys greatest hits

The 4th guy on the right (wearing the letter "A" ) is Dave Thomas...(also one of the McKenzie brothers)
His real life brother is Ian Thomas...who had this song reach the charts in America in 1973

Ian had several more hits in Canada.

Yes, but did he have any songs that could match the brilliance of "Patsy Has The Largest Breasts In Town?" ;D

That is a cool song though. Sounds a lot like the band America.

SCTV was a great show. Plus it seems pretty obvious that SNL ripped this off for their Celebrity Jeopardy skits (though the celebrity impressions were quite funny).

And, after watching some of these clips, I really miss John Candy.  :(
