Subject: The Gasworks Tavern Toronto
Written By: c_keenan2001@hotmail.com on 11/17/13 at 2:18 am
I don't have any specific antecdodes about that place. I was 16 when the place finally shut down for good in 1993. Why it shut down is another story but what they did to the building now is absolutely obscene. :P

Does anybody have any stories that they'd like to share about this place? I would sure be grateful if someone who was older than me had a story about this place?

Can't help.
I was there at least once, maybe twice, during the early 1980s. Don't recall anything significant happening. I probably saw a band there, no idea which one. (back then I saw at least 3 different bands every month in different locations, only a few bands stick out.)
I just know the place was very well known for local bands to visit. Popular place.
Hope someone else can help you.

I hope so too. There's a lot of history in that building that I think needs to be preserved. In fact the whole of Yonge Street is being changed and demolished in the name of "progress."
They shouldn't have been allowed to treat that building the way that they did. A private Gym on the top and an army surplus store on the bottom.
Somebody should put in the money to turn that place back into a bar or another profitable business instead of just using it and abusing it.

I have no idea Howard. :( But just look at what they did to the building. They painted over a beautiful mural. :(

I mean to do that to a piece of your neighborhood was just awful.

Yonge Street is a historical street. All of those new condos that they're planning will destroy the historical signifficance of the street not to mention condos are so ugly the way that they're built. :P
I really love Yonge Street in downtown Toronto. It's hopeful that the City Council will consider saving some of the buildings on the street.
