Subject: Bright neon clothes

Am I wrong or did the really bright neon clothes not start until about 1986?

Like, Hi, Todd Pettingzoo, Fer Shurr,

I'm not certain about EXACTLY when the bright clothing fad began, but I remember that during about 1990, I received a bright pink, two-piece outfit, which featured multi-colored side panels.

I once read that the hot 1986 colors were "soft pink, baby blue, and banana yellow" (In other words, pastels), but I think that the bright, neon clothing fad might have begun around 1989, or so.

The late 1980s were a strange time for fashion, at least where women were concerned.  Mall Bangs competed with longer, center-parted "Return to the Counter Culture" hairstyles. I'm fairly certain that during about 1986, The Romantic Look (As in Victorian...) competed with emerging California styles. I also think that during the late 1980s, a Retro 1950s styles were in style, and I'm surprised that the movie "Roger Rabbit" DIDN'T bring 1940s styles back!

Every time that I think about the early 1990s, I think about neon colors, bright (almost MOD 1960s) patterns and styles, polka dots, stirrup pants, etc.  I began Junior High during 1991, and my wardrobe included black and white hounds tooth-checked stirrup pants, a red, A-line, zip front top, side-zipping black boots, and a wide, white fabric headband.

I remember alot of neon in my childhood from 89 to about 91. It did not help that my elementary school colors were green and white. Spirit day had a bunch of kids looking radioactive with the neon green.

(I like neon, but I can NEVER get my make up right with it. Unless I wear all nudes, I clash. Grrr.)

The song Standing In The Dark is about neuclear war.

Systems red we switch to overload
Defcon 5 we're ready to explode
you think we're humble we take no prisoners
you drop that bomb they'll be no prisoners

Maybe we'll run and hide
tomorrow change our minds
until then it's suicide

Standing in the dark
this could be our last mistake
Standing in the dark
this could be your last mistake

But it's not the first one.
