As in, if someone were to ask you to refer to them tv shows and movies that define the 80s and hint at what they were really like, what would you reference? Here are mine.

I agree with that list. For films that define that 80s for me, I'd add:
Rambo
The Terminator
Beverly Hills Cop
Running Scared
and TV shows like:
The Cosby Show
You Can't Do That On Television
Schoolhouse Rock
That's just off the top of my head.
