1986 and '88 stand out the most to me musically. Michael, Madonna, Prince, and Whitney really seemed to dominate the decade.

1983 to me is the biggie here, for one simple reason: Michael Jackson's Thriller and the flood of MTV artists that suddenly got big airplay. 1980-82 was sort of this transitional phase between the disco era and the true MTV/"John Hughes" era that lasted through most of the remainder of the decade. 1989 also stands out being quite a bit more rhytmic and cheesy but having some new artists with short-lived bursts of popularity (Paula Abdul, Fine Young Cannibals, New Kids on the Block, and Milli Vanilli) while still having some Hair Metal and Phil Collins hits to show that the '80s atmosphere is still alive. My favorite years are 1983, 1984, and 1987.
