They were an Australian rock band, led by Colin Hay.

Their biggest hits in the States include "Who Can It Be Now" and "Down Under", both of which were #1 hits in 1982. Both still get generous radio airplay these days (at least on stations that I listen to).

I watched it all beginning to end on TV. The old model of MTV broadcast it in its entirety (both locations) and one of the major networks (ABC, I think) broadcast a prime time segment of it. The new, revisionist history is that Queen had some kind of transcendent performance equal to the second coming of Christ or something, but this was simply not so. It was a good enough performance but it was neither the highlight of Live Aid nor of Queen's career.  It was just one more performance of many. Funny how "truth" changes with the passage of years.

April 27th 1986 – The city of Pripyat and surrounding areas are evacuated due to the Chernobyl disaster.

That day was a Sunday, and for me it was one of my earliest memories of attending a baseball game at Dodger Stadium. (I was 5 3/4 years old.)

One thing I remember about my visit there is that I lost a tooth while eating a Dodger Dog (a special hotdog consisting of a frankfurter that sticks out the bun at both ends).

The Dodgers won their game, btw, defeating the Atlanta Braves 7-4.
