Which were some of your favourites? I'm looking at themes with a good solid melody. My first entry is...

Women In Prison.  It only lasted until 1988 but it had a good theme song.

Poor little girls
now you're trapped
in this cruel crazy world

You feel so ashamed
you insist you were framed
and you cling to your stole
at least till you're paroled.

So misunderstood
now you're missing life that was so good (yes it was)
While other girls make dates
you make license plates

Now it's life in the joint
in your cell what's the point

So you're turning your wounds
walking back and forth across the room

Have them forward your mail
NOW YOU'RE IN JAIL!!

Never even heard of "Women In Jail" but yes the theme tune has a good quirkiness to it.

I'm gonna follow with 2 somewhat obvious ones. I think these were released as singles in their own right they were that popular! Would something like that even happen these days?  :-\\

Yep - cartoons count. I remember holding my cassette recorder to the old tv and taping The Littles theme. I remember the clunk at the beginning with the play and record button being pressed together. :D Good times! This is the 3rd season opening which had a more international flavour musically...

Funny thing is I only know one song by him:
CdKVX45wYeQ
And I haven't heard that one on German radio for an eternity. It is as if it was sort of blacklisted. There are plenty of 80ies songs which are played occasionally if they were big back then but this one strangely isn't among them (at least in my area, that might be differently in other regions).

I know, I know, I know it spent more time in the 1990s then the 80s, but still. The first season for the most part is very late 80s (more like The Cosby Show, too) despite the last episodes airing in 1990. When I went clubbing in the mid-late 90s, they used to play Fraggle Rock at 6am as the last song of the 'night'! Love it!

M.A.S.K. was great too - wish I still had my toys.  :(

Kate & Allie was always a firm favourite of mine - although the full theme song was only ever featured in the closing credits. But still I like the simple piano intro - gives you that calm relaxed Saturday afternoon feel!

Minder is a British comedy-drama about the London criminal underworld. Initially produced by Verity Lambert, it was made by Euston Films, a subsidiary of Thames Television (Central in 1993 and 1994) and shown on ITV. The show ran for ten series between 29 October 1979 and 10 March 1994, and starred Dennis Waterman as Terry McCann, an honest and likable bodyguard (minder in London slang) and George Cole as Arthur Daley, a socially ambitious, but highly unscrupulous importer-exporter, wholesaler, used-car salesman, and purveyor of anything else from which there was money to be made whether inside the law or not. The theme tune, "I Could Be So Good for You", was written in 1979 by Patricia Waterman and Gerard Kenny and sung by Dennis Waterman.

How do you forget that one? My Friday nights back then were made. The first season episodes were the best.

I was just thinking Rob to have one last reunion before George Gaynes passes away to have one small reunion with Soliel Moon Frye, just one time. For nostalgia's sake if he's up to it.

He's doing well isn't he! 97 years old... wow!

And "Moonlighting" by Al Jarreau was another theme so popular they released it as a single!

TS Turner was a city smart  kid fighting his way off of the street until he was framed for a crime that he didn't commit.
A Taler was a young crusading lawyer who mounted an appeal to put Turner back on the street this time in a suit and tie working as a private detective.  Together they are T and T.

I used to watch this everyday without fail.  My life as a pre-teen girl.  Video Hits with Samantha Taylor.  My idol and the reason why I want to become a music journalist.  :)

Home And Away

Used to watch Home & Away (and Neighbours) every day in the UK. I've actually been watching old episodes on You Tube, though the channel I subscribed to has just been deleted - always the case! I forgot Craig McLachlan was in both soap operas.

And here's Neighbours...

I never knew she was in a U.K. sitcom.

I never knew she was in a U.K. sitcom.
She made her fame acting in the soap opera "Neighbours", before commencing her singing career.

"Neighbours" has never been a situation comedy.

Home and Away used to air on YTV here in Canada at the time when they became good at getting TV shows from abroad.  They were also supposed to get a show called S.W.A.L.K. Sealed With A Loving Kiss but that unfortunately didn't happen.  And they had been advertising it on the promos before YTV went on the air.

I wouldn't mind a remake of this show if they brought back Tony Danza.

What? Tony Danza wasn't in Too Close For Comfort.  That was JJ Bullock.  ;D
