Subject: Please, anyone know this song?

Written By: RazrV3 on 01/31/15 at 2:33 pm

Hi,

I'd appreciate some help identifying a song I heard. The best I can describe it is jazzy/loungey/smokey/smooth, sounds like it would be a classic/oldie, and there was a sax portion that had a melody like this: http://onlinesequencer.net/64520

In terms of the "character" of the song, this is the closest approximation I could find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmDDOFXSgAs

Girl from Ipanema is also somewhat reminiscent of it. Could be something they'd play in an elevator. Or in movies with an elevator scene.

There may or may not be singing after the sax part...was too loud to hear.

To be honest I'm not even sure if it was from the 80's - could be 60's for all I know. Sorry I'm not too well-versed in this department.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Can I say right here and now, it is familiar to me, and I am working on it.

To me, this tune is set to a bossa nova beat.

A female sing the song.

Sorry, it took me age to hear this for I had issues with the sound on my tablet.

Yep sounds familiar to me too, but it's a tough one - could be from several eras, especially being an instrumental (I presume there are no lyrics?). I almost thought it was the Sledgehammer theme tune but obviously it isn't.

Subject: HELP!! Need help identifying an 80's "new wavey" like song

Written By: kim8673 on 02/25/15 at 4:24 pm

Hi there.  My name is Kim.  I'm new to this website....so I'm not sure how to post my own subject.....

Here is the problem:

I need some help.  My friend has a song stuck in her head.  She says part of the lyric is:  and I run to you  or I turn to You.....

Male lead singer....

She says it's not Bryan Adams, Cheap Trick, or Flock of Seagulls.  She says in the new wave era around when New Order was the thing.

She remembers it as being very breathy and obscure....she says it's like a ballad and definitely more obscure than Flock of Seagulls.

She says she remembers it being important at the time.

If anyone can help out that would be great!

Hi Kim, Could your song be "Just like heaven" by the Cure?

Just Like Heaven - The Cure

lyrics

"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

...originally recorded by Gloria Jones (girlfriend of glam rock artist Marc Bolan) in 1964.

As used in the movie "In Time", this is the bossa nova tune I thinking in my above reply.

So Nice, as performed by Bebel Gilberto

From wiki:

Summer Samba (also known as So Nice or its original Portuguese title, "Samba de Verão") is a 1964 bossa nova song by Brazilian composer Marcos Valle, with English-language lyrics by Norman Gimbel; the original Portuguese lyrics came from Paulo Sérgio Valle, brother to the composer.
