Written By: Wiz83 on 02/27/15 at 9:07 pm

Here are the top ten video games of the '80s according to G4's 100 Greatest Video Games of All Time, which I separated by decade. Let me know what you think.

1. Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1985)
2. Tetris (NES, 1989)
3. The Legend of Zelda (NES, 1986)
4. Donkey Kong (Arcade, 1981)
5. Ms. Pac-Man (Arcade, 1982)
6. Punch-Out!! (NES, 1987)
7. Ghost N' Goblins (Arcade, 1985)
8. Tecmo Bowl (NES, 1989)
9. Gauntlet (Arcade, 1985)
10. Contra (NES, 1988)

Super Mario Bros. and Tetris for me

I like those too. As well as the arcade version of Ms. Pacman, which was #5 on the list.

It's definitely Super Mario Brothers and Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

I'm surprised the original Pac-Man (Arcade, 1980) didn't make this list. It was not just THE game that popularized video arcades, but also a cultural craze from merchandise such as cereals to a Saturday Morning Cartoon to even a hit song by Buckner & Garcia. Since this list accounts individual versions, there is no reason the ill-received Atari 2600 denies its position on this list. Ms. Pac-Man was a nice game, but mostly just recycled what on what the original Pac-Man worked well with some minor but not groundbreaking changes, such as slightly different maze designs, a couple new food items, a couple different cut scenes that the first game already provided, and simply having Sue instead of Clyde. There were also some good early PC games as well such as Qix and Flight Simulator that are worthy. But I can't deny Super Mario Bros, Tetris, and Zelda topping this list.

I understand Super Mario Bros. was a defining game.  It took the side scrolling platform that Pitfall started, and made it better, but is it a good enough game to beat out others for a Top 10 list?  I don't think so at all.

I love all the games in the list, but when it comes to video games, a Top 10 list is basically to each his/her own.

There were two Tetris games for NES.  The Nintendo one was great, but the Tengen one was far superior cause it more resembled the one that was in the arcade.  Both came out for NES in 1989:
