"Fight The Power" and "We Didn't Start The Fire"

Now, I shall rank the 80s music-wise.

1. 1985
2. 1986
3. 1984
4. 1982
5. 1987
6. 1988
7. 1983
8. 1980
9. 1989
10. 1981

The 80s were simply the best decade, pop-culture wise. It always had a variety of good movies, music, video games, and TV shows.

I chose "Back to Life" and "Buffalo Stance". 1989 was very clearly the best year of the decade for music. It was easily the least cheesy and the most exciting and edgy.

What happened in 1990? 1989 had so much steaming passion, but it just went out with a fart in 1990. It's incredibly disappointing how much worse 1990 was than 1989. 1991 made up for it though.

'Right Here Waiting' and 'Another Day In Paradise'.

Rather annoyed that 'The Living Years' (best song of the entire 1980s) is not here yet that crap 'Love Shack' is.

"Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crue and "Poison" by Alice Cooper.

It would have been epic if a certain song from Faith No More was included in the list as well. ;)

It was only popular in mid-late 1990, though.

We Didn't Start The Fire obviously for #1. Enjoyed it when my dad bought the Storm Front album in 1989, with my classmates in middle school years later when they wanted a repeat, and again today as Billy Joel continues to perform and sequel versions are composed. Why it lost out the Record of the Year to Wind Beneath My Wings is another question and I'll admit my mom loved that song (and the Beaches soundtrack) when she played her cassette on it and find it a decent song, but personally find the earlier versions more fun to listen to.

I also voted for Buffalo Stance. Its one of those rare "only in 1988/89" sounding songs that has a great hodgepodge of freestyle, new jack, Hi-NRG, house, and general dance-pop combined with a great vocal that is better than Paula Abdul's hits that dominated the dance charts that year, including the overplayed Straight Up.

I'm a sucker for Debbie Gibson, probably the only guy in my company with all her hits on my I-pod.

Two songs from 1989.

From the given list of songs I went with one, "Buffalo Stance",
but if I had to pick just two, and not from the list, I'd go with

The Smithereens and "A Girl Like You",
plus "My One Temptation" by Mica Paris.

"Back II Life" and "Lost In Your Eyes".

Back in the day I would've voted for "Right Here Waiting" but it got too overplayed since then.

The Living Years forever! Better than that B52s, Soul To Soul or Neneh Cherry dross. It is the song I wish I'd written.

It's always hard for me to choose but here are my two for that year:

Wave of Mutilation~ the Pixies
No Myth ~ Michael Penn.

Edited: I answered earlier on a device that does not show polls so didn't realize there was a specific list.
From the list I chose Elvis Costello and the Pixies.  ;D

The Living Years forever!

Shame it isn't on the poll. That would've got my vote too.

I voted for "Back II Life" & "Fight the Power" 8)

I would also have chosen (if they were listed and you could chose more than 2 songs):

"Miss You Much" by Janet Jackson
"Bust a Move" by Young MC
"Express Yourself" by N.W.A
