Well, as a brand itself Zubaz didn't even start 'til 1989. :P The brand I showed you is Socal Surfwear. If you're just referring to colorful crazy pants as "Zubaz", those were already one of the hugest trends in 1985.

There is definitely a slight change in fashion between the mid and late' 80s. Not drastic but definitely a difference. Miami Vice suits weren't popular after 1988.

They were still pretty popular until at least '90. For all intents and purposes, mid and late 80's fashion is basically the same era.

A lot of guys in synthpop circles still wore those styles and girls still had those Madonna-esque looks until 1990/1991-ish. Really, mid and late 80's fashion isn't that different at all.

In the 80s people seemed to think the future would be neon and look like Tokyo (think Blade Runner). Even in Final Fantasy 7 (from 1997), the futuristic city of Midgar was drenched in neon colors. Too bad the future turned out rather drab.
