The years of 1978 and 1979 should be 0% for the 1980s have not existed yet.

I know there's already been threads on this for the other decades and some of you might be getting sick of this kind of topic. But I just thought, what the hell why not make one for the 80's since this is my favorite decade. Here goes;

1978 - 5%
1979 - 30%
1980 - 35%
1981 - 45%
1982 - 50%
1983 - 98%
1984 - 100%
1985 - 100%
1986 - 90%
1987 - 80%
1988 - 70%
1989 - 55%
1990 - 60%
1991 - 55%
1992 - 30%

No way do I think that...
1989 is only 55% '80s. 1989 as still pretty '80s.....not much different from 1988. I think 1989 was 65-70% '80s.

1992 is 30% '80s. 1992 in my opinion was 45-50% '80s.

I think that....
1993 was the first year in which 1990s culture was more dominant than 1980s culture. 1993 was 70% '90s and 30% '80s.

I'll create a chart later to show my full opinion on this.

Did you not know grunge exploded in 1991 and introduced a whole new culture? So I really don't see how you could exclude 1992 from the 90's era, let alone 1993.

The only reason I consider 1992 to be part of the 80's zeitgeist is that a few of the 80's fads did survive the grunge takeover and Bill Clinton wasn't president yet.

Grunge did not explode in 1991. People often falsely say that just because of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. Grunge exploded in late 1992/early 1993 and died in 1995.

1992 wasn't apart of the 1980s zeitgeist. 1987 was when the 1980s zeitgeist ended. The '80s zeitgeist was from 1984-1987. 1980s culture however was still heavily seen in the years 1982-1983 and 1988-1992.

No way 1986 is more '90s than '80s, are your snorting? This was before The Simpsons shorts existed, the name "Taylor Dayne" didn't even exist yet, Mariah Carey was just a normal high schooler, Celine Dion was only a region Canadian French singer, no Tiffany, Paula Abdul was just a choreographer, no New Jack Swing, the script for The Little Mermaid hadn't yet been written, Diff'rent Strokes and Love Boat were still on the air for part of the year, pre-Wall Street crash making yuppies uncool, pre-Die Hard, pre-Lethal Weapon, and there were no 16-bit gaming consoles (even in Japan). It was a "wall-to-wall" '80s year like the second half of 1983, 1984, and 1985. To say that a non-'80s year is more '80s than any of the actual 1980s years itself is just wacko.

My take:

1977: 5%
1978: 10%
1979: 25%
1980: 40%
1981: 60%
1982: 85%
1983: 95%
1984: 100%
1985: 100%
1986: 98% (only the presence of glasnost/perestroika, the two forces that would eventually end the Cold War lowers this a bit)
1987: 90%
1988: 70%
1989: 55%
1990: 45%
1991: 20%
1992: 10%

Not in this sub. I'm only the mod in the Current Politics & Religious Topics sub, and it's probably been only once or twice in the last 5 years that I've had to do any actual moderation in there, so I probably wouldn't even know how to delete a thread.  :D

9. 1994/1995 Toyota Supra MK IV
10. 1993 Honda Civic EJ1

On Facebook one of my gearhead friends made a post with several old muscle cars and a Nissan Skyline GT-R, with the caption, "Which one would you pick?"

I responded that I'd pick the Skyline and they crucified me for it.  :D

I then replied that the muscle cars would be great for the quarter-mile, but if I wanted to do some laps around a road course then I'd absolutely take the Skyline.

I've loved that car ever since the first Gran Turismo came out on PS1 in 1998.

Or, we can just hijack this thread and talk about whatever.

For some reason, I've been getting this urge to buy an old Jeep Wrangler.

I don't want a car, I'm happy with my bike and bus pass.

It would be kind of cool to live in city with good enough public transportation to where you didn't need a car.

But, I love to drive.

I think 1987 is the last "core" 80s year.
