The first? :o Not even close, I think you mean the last (and that's debatable).

1989
-Born in the last year of the classic 20th century
-Born in the first year of the Bush administration
-Born in the breakthrough year of New Jack Swing

Incorrect. 1988 was the breakthrough year of NJS.

Many people feel that the "classic" 20th century ended in 1992 or 1993 not 1989.

Also, just a FYI...when talking about George H.W. Bush just say his full name, "H.W./HW Bush" or "Bush 41". Most people when they see "Bush administration" think of Bush 41's son, George W. Bush.

I've read comments on here that put the 'classic 20th century' up until 1994, or 1995.

Yeah, got that mixed up.

Incorrect. 1988 was the breakthrough year of NJS.

I read on Wikipedia that Ghostbusters II's "On Our Own" song by Bobby Brown was what brought NJS to the mainstream as a genre.

How so?

I read on Wikipedia that Ghostbusters II's "On Our Own" song by Bobby Brown was what brought NJS to the mainstream as a genre.

You read wrong. The first NJS song to be a hit was "I Want Her" by Keith Sweat in 1987. However, the first successful NJS album was Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel in 1988 with "My Prerogative" and "Don't Be Cruel".

How so?

1992-1993 was when the first Baby Boomer President was elected and came into office, that time was when you started to see a shift in films with the breakthrough hit of Jurassic Park and it's use of CGI, PCs were becoming more and more accessible and the world was beginning to look more similar to today than even 10 years prior, Islamic terrorism would first shock the US in 1993 with the World Trade Center Bombing on February 26, 1993 (the attack was plotted by Al Qaeda).

I know there were NJS hits in 1987-1988, but I meant that 1989 was when it became popular as a genre, kind of like how disco had its first hit in early 1973 with The O'Jay's "Love Train" but didn't become a popular music category until late 1974.

BTW, I meant "Don't Be Cruel" not "Every Little Step".

Also, the situation with Disco is entirely different. Bobby Brown was the "King of New Jack Swing" and he propelled NJS (yes, as a genre) into stardom in 1988. Why do you think they asked him to do the "On Our Own" for Ghostbusters II?

1989 was when New Jack Swing continued to explode and definitely 1989 and 1990 were the peek years of New Jack Swing but 1988 when was it became a staying force.

As an 85er I have to say there's just a few flaws in your post on 85. Pokemon was actually poppular among those born that year. It had a quality that extended to the very early teens. Also I would say 86ers were the last the graduate before cell phones become quite common with high schoolers. They were already starting have phones as early 2001 but it's was more common by 2005 that judt about every high school kid had a phone.

No people born in 85 were into Pokemon, trust me. You all born after the 80s just don't know or see what people born 80s was into. Inaccurate assumptions is all is. You had to be there I guess.

I read a pokemon magazine from 1999 and there was a Pokemon fan born in 1984.I also knew a guy born in the late 70s who still was watching Rugrats in the late 90s.

I had a co-worker born 1984 who played the Pokémon games. Heck, I met a user on here born in the late 1950s who played the games. ;D I think T-Rex was talking about majority of '85ers, probably.

I am an '85er and while I noticed my final year of middle/junior high school (1998-99, the first year of the Pokemon craze outside of Japan), there were a few people at lunch who had the card game, but when I entered high school several months later, it was all gone, and it became a guilty pleasure for me to enjoy since I was suddenly with a bunch of 1982-84ers who just weren't into it, preferring of course American Pie-like culture. 14/15/16 isn't really a good time to get into stuff designed "for kids" since you're preparing to be an adult. Of course, those same people who are now in their 30s and have kids find it acceptable now since they can get on a periphery demographic fad to their own children, similar to Sesame Street for late Baby Boomers to their kids, like my parents.

That's my point. Alot of people who were born in the 90s assume people born in the mid 80s wasn't into Pokemon but they actually were just not as many as those who were born in say 89. The fact is the main core of the Pokemon crazy of the late 90s was those born 88 to about 95

I assume however there were not as many early 80s and late 70s babies who were into Pokemon as there were mid 80s borns. I met a person born in 1981 who thought that Pokemon was for babies

I think there was very very little late 70s and early 80s babies who, if any, were into Pokemon. Like I said I'm sure thoes born in the mids wasn't a huge chunk of the demographic but a part of it. I think the core of it's demographics was thoes born between 88 to 94/95.
