It was released as a single and became a hit in 1983, though. It's the same logic that landed all those songs from Michael Jackson's Thriller on this list of yours instead of the one you wrote for 1982.

That's one thing that makes these lists so difficult. Personally, I usually go by which came first, the single or the album, as the "correct" year for that song, though I've  violated my own rule on occasion, such as here.  It looked like everyone else was putting Thriller songs on this list, so I figured I might as well join the crowd.  (Plus, Thriller came out with only a month to go in 1982.)
