Subject: Artists who changed musical direction in the 80s

Written By: whistledog on 03/14/20 at 12:50 pm

As the music changed throughout the 80s, many bands/singers tried changing their sound.  For some, it worked.  For others, it did not.  What are some?

Here is one to begin:
Popular in the 70s and into the early 80s, Quebec born Gino Vannelli was all about soft rock.  In 1981, he had a massive hit with Living Inside Myself, but as the music started to change and new wave was becoming more popular, he took a time out to revamp his sound and in 1984, came back with the song Black Cars.  Though it was not his highest charting single in Canada, it remains his signature song and is one song that I do not think I could live without!

Elton John seemed to be one such performer.

For much of the 70's he had many hits that might be considered "rock", and by the 80's he began having more mellow hits. (Some of his 70's stuff could be considered mellow too.)
