Subject: The Late 80s = A Distinct Era

Written By: oldmusicfan on 03/26/20 at 9:41 pm

Does anyone think of the late 80s as an era separate from the rest of the 1980s? Xennials has come into their own just about. Late Gen Xers were in high school or about to enter college. Baby Boomers were telling stories about the late 1960s and early 70s. Jones and early Gen Xers were waxing nostalgia about the late 70s and early 80s.

Late 1989- early 1991 was the very start of the 90s;

Officially 90s with a lot of 80s holdovers

Late 1987 to mid 1989 was the late 80s;

Just 80s culture that was mixed with bits and pieces of incoming 90s elements.

Late 1989 was still late 80s. There were plenty of incoming 90s elements like Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, Family Matters, Saved By The Bell, BAYWATCH, Doogie Howser MD, and the first BTTF sequel.

The very early 90s (1990-early 1991) were a little different from the rest of the 90s. The best part!

The late 80s were when Xers were starting to drive, XYers just about had our childhood identity, and Millennials were being born.

Late 1989 - mid 1991 represents a crossover. Incoming 90s elements but plenty of 80s trends still big and popular be it in TV, music, film, fashion etc.
