Subject: Punky Brewster - new remake 2020

Written By: robby76 on 04/23/20 at 2:56 am

The trailer for the new Punky Brewster series is out. I'm normally against reboots, but this one actually stars Soleil Moon Frye and Cherie Johnson. Freddie Prinze Jnr in it as well.

Kinda looks like the same apartment setting as the original too.

I always liked the show Punky Brewster during the 1980's but you know I'll give this new version a shot and see how it is, The question is who will play Henry Warnimont? ???

Most likely nobody.  Henry was in his 60's when he adopted Punky

Looks like what they did with fuller house. Now it’s about the kids she is raising instead. But who knows they might have an occasional character who is very old to play Henry aka grandpa. Who might stop by once in awhile or visit him in a nursing home. Or just write it into the show that he isn’t still alive which is true.

There's actually a picture of Henry on the wall in the very beginning of the trailer.

It'd be nice to have Margaux and Allen in it at some point too.

If you had to choose an actor just for example whom would it be?

It was just silly the way Punky Bewster had ended it's run in 1988 and it only had 4 years, Who thought it should've lasted longer?

I don't think I could as no one could replace George Gaynes, but just for comedy sake, G.W. Bailey lol

Dogs usually only get 12-15 years old so it's been gone for a long time. :-X

My guess is that he might have died years after it's finale but Punky can most likely find a new dog named Brandon.

It looks good.  I'm just not sure it will be the same without George Gaynes and Susie Garret.  I'm in Canada so it's very likely that The Peacock streaming service won't be here.  Just in the U.S.  Too bad too.  I used to really enjoy watching the show in my youth.

Shows are sometimes not as good without the original cast but I will give it a shot just as long as it's funny.

The production team have to be careful, as what was cute from an eight year old will not be so cute on a middle aged woman who is pushing fifty.

Margaux (Ami Foster) was the one who deserved a spin-off back in the 1980s.

The spinoff could work if they use the right people for the show, most of the cast members have been long deceased but what they could bring in the ones that are still living right now, we'll see how this one goes, it could flop but you never know in 2020 compared what kids were watching 36 years ago, we'll see if they might be interested.

Or it could have been because somebody decided that Soleil was no longer the cute little child that she once was and decided that the show should end aka hitting prepubescence.  Back then once child actors hit a certain age they were no-longer as cute as they were before hitting puberty.

Actually, these kids are Punky's foster kids.  The youngest one reminded her of how she was at that age when Henry found her and Brandon wandering on the street in front of the same supermarket that her youngest foster was wandering in front of.

I loved Punky Brewster and even sent away for an autographed picture of her which I hung on my wall.
I loved the episode where Cherie gets stuck in an abandoned refrigerator out in the alley (I think I'm remembering correctly). And didn't blond brat Margeaux call people "Peasant!"??? LOL

What I loved more than Punky Brewster sitcom was the cartoon spinoff (with the weird animal "Glomer"), which I watched religiously on Saturday mornings, along with a bunch of others, like Kidd Video, Ed Grimley, Teddy Ruxpin, Bernstain Bears, ABC Weekend Special, etc.

I don't think I'll be watching the new reboot though.

No, she would have been 11 when it was filmed.
She was born Aug 1976, and final episode aired May 1988.

I have no interest in watching the reboot, but am curious if any people or animals will have colorful bandanas tied around their arms or legs.
