Subject: Was the "Sitting Ducks" picture famous in the 80s?

This one:

I think of it as culturally important, as I read the book, saw the TV show in the 2000s, and once went to a restaurant that had a bunch of these prints on the wall.

Was it well known at the time, though?

Hmm. I vaguely remember them. Like I've seen them but can't remember too clearly. I think I saw them on a mug or a cup in the 80s. Not too sure. But I' know I've seen them.

I must admit, I'm not familiar with it either. Wikipedia indicates it originated in 1978, but I don't recall seeing it then, or in the 80s. I am familiar with most of the famed posters of the 70s. Who could forget the Farrah Fawcett one? And in the earlier 70s there was the "beep beep yurass" poster, which morphed into "beep beep yurgas" poster when the alleged gas shortage hit. Many a college dorm sported these images.

As above, it is a new image to me, but my image of the 1980s is that single man standing in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square, back in June 1989.
